Antelope Valley 67, Miramar 63 (OT)

PG Rod Singleton had 15 pts and PF Matt Stern had 14 as host #8 Antelope Valley (6-3) overcame an early deficit to post a 67-63 overtime win over Miramar (2-3) in the consolation final of the Rancho Vista Shootout Sunday afternoon.

Miramar made 10 of its first 14 shots of the game to take a 22-9 lead midway through the first half. But AVC closed the gap to just two points at 28-26 at halftime, and tied the game at 28 on a driving lay-up by Singleton in the first minute of the second half.

After that, the game remained close the rest of the way, with the lead going back and forth. AVC led 57-56 with under a minute to go until Miramar got a fast break dunk by PF Sean Hinkley with 39.6 seconds left to take a 58-57 advantage. Then Singleton made a pair of free throws with 27.2 seconds left to put AVC in front, 59-58. PG Bryant Taylor made one of two free throws for Miramar with 5.4 seconds left to tie the game at 59 and send it to overtime.

In the extra session, Stern made a pair of free throws to give AVC a 63-61 lead, and then hit a short jumper to make it 65-61. Miramar Ctr Nate Easterman scored off a pass from SG Carl Hauke with 1:35 left to make it 65-63, but neither team would score again until the final seconds.

Stern made a key block on PF Steven Jones with 45 seconds left to preserve AVC's lead. Then AVC seemed to get the basket it needed to clinch the game on a shot by Singleton, but SG Jason Logan was ruled to have interfered with the ball over the rim. Miramar had a chance to take the lead, but Hauke's 3-point try from the top of the key missed. The ball went out of bounds to AVC, and on the restart, the ball went to Singleton. The sophomore point guard made a pair of free throws with 2.9 seconds left to make it 67-63 and finally clinch the win for the Marauders.

Singleton finished with 15 pts and 3 asts, and was named to the all-tournament team. Stern had 14 pts, 7 rebs and 4 asts, and received the AVC Most Inspirational Player award from team offical Nancy Jo Hatfield. PF Gary Winfield came off the bench and grabbed a game-high 12 rebs.

For Miramar, Taylor finished with a game-high 19 pts plus 3 asts, and was named to the all-tournament team. Easterman had 10 pts despite foul trouble, and SF Tyler Fricke had 10 pts plus 6 rebs, 3 asts and 3 steals.
