Diablo Valley gives CCSF "Mo Better" Blues
PF Mo Charlo scored 8 of his game-high 24 pts in the final 1:04, and added 13 rebs to claim tourney MVP honors and lead his DVC Vikings (11-1) to a 58-49 win over CC San Francisco (7-3) in the Championship game of the Delta Holiday Tourney Dec. 21st.
Charlo broke a DVC field goal drought of over 7 minutes with a pair of thunderous dunks in the final 33 seconds as the Vikings managed to hold off the Rams. SG Shamar Armstrong added 9 pts and 6 asts, while Ctr Demarshay Johnson made the All-Tourney team and finished with 8 pts and 10 rebs in the Final. PG Bret Rubin added 8 pts and joined Armstrong on the All-Tourney team.
CCSF had led for much of the first half, and held a 20-13 lead with about 4 mins left before the break. But then DVC finished the half on a 15-2 run to take a 28-22 lead at intermission. A pair of threes by Armstrong gave DVC the lead in the half's final minute, and they held that lead the rest of the game. CCSf rallied to within 5 several times down the stretch, but that's as close as they got before Charlo's last-minute outburst secured the win for DVC.
CCSF lost despite a powerful game from Ctr Lex James (10 pts, 14 rebs). PG Johnnie Bryant had 16 pts and 7 rebs and was named to the All-Tourney team. SG Jamal Holden added 10 pts and 7 rebs but was just 3 of 16 from the floor. Overall, the Rams shot 31.8% on FGs for the game.
