Glendale (11-5) jumped out to a 15-0 lead and cruised to an easy win, blitzing East LA (7-9), 83-37, Wednesday night at Vaquero Gym in Glendale.
The Vaqueros used their press to force 13 East LA turnovers before the Huskies got on the board. Finally, PF Zantika Ellis scored for East LA, but then Glendale scored the next 10 points to go ahead, 25-2, and they were never challenged from there.
Ctr Paola Gupilan led Glendale with 20 pts, 7 rebs and 4 blocked shots. SG Helen Suarez had a marvelous game with 18 pts on 8-of-12 shooting plus 6 rebs, 7 asts and 4 steals. PG Mackenna Karasawa had 17 pts, 6 asts and 4 steals and SG Deanna Barajas came off the bench to add 12 pts, 3 asts and 3 steals.
For East LA, Z. Ellis and Ctr Amanda Acuna-Miller each had 6 pts to lead the way. PF Amy Ortiz came off the bench to pull down a team-high 7 rebs. But the Huskies shot just 24% from the floor and committed 32 turnovers in the loss.
