Michael Cross had a monster game with 28 pts and 19 rebs to lead Feather River (8-6) to an 80-62 win over Mendocino (3-10) in the consolation final of the Kris Kringle Classic and Santa Rosa.
Feather River led virtually the entire second half after holding just a 3-point lead at the half. And down the stretch, as FRC pulled away, Cross had 6 points and 7 rebounds in the final 5 minutes. Only two other players had as many as 7 rebounds for the entire game.
Other standouts for FRC included PG Antonio Williams, who had 16 pts, 5 asts and 4 steals, and PF Mathew Schmidt, who came off the bench and added 13 pts and 6 rebs. SF Lloyd Strickland had 5 pts and grabbed 12 boards. And PG Gerald Smiley had a strong game off the bench with 9 pts and 5 asts.
For Mendocino, SG Steven Polanco led the way with 27 pts, and he added 6 asts. PG Jared Giammona was Mendocino's other scorer to reach double figures; he had 10 pts plus a game-high 8 asts.
