In the third place game of the Crown City Holiday Classic at Pasadena, #6 Chaffey had absolutely no trouble with the host Lancers, posting a 106-82 win Saturday afternoon.
This one was never in doubt as the Panthers raced out to a 14-point halftime lead and extended the margin to as many as 35 points in the second half.
It was tied 6-6 early on, but then Chaffey scored the next 7 points to take a lead it would hold the rest of the way. Three straight threes by SF Christen Massengale allowed Chaffey to double Pasadena's score at 34-17 with just over 7 minutes left in the first half.
Pasadena closed the margin to 14 points at 46-32 at the half, but in the second half Chaffey just pulled away again. A three by SF Jamar Berry pushed the margin to 20 at 58-38, and a conventional 3-point play by Ctr Brandon Price pushed the margin past the 30-point mark to 76-44. At one point, Chaffey led by 35 at 93-58 and a three by Massengale pushed the Panthers past the century mark to lead, 102-69, before a late Pasadena rally made the final score look a little more respectable.
Six Panthers scored in double figures, led by SF Anthony Clayton, who had 16 (4 threes). Price added 14 (and 5 steals) and SG Alwyn Jordan had 13. In all, Chaffey made 15 threes and forced 39 Pasadena turnovers.
For the Lancers, SG Jenero Jefferson had a huge game, posting totals of 30 pts, 6 rebs and 4 asts. PG Landis Scott had 16 pts and 4 asts, though he also accounted for the staggering total of 11 turnovers. PF Mark Sutton had 9 pts and a game-high 9 rebs.
