SG Thurmond Sutton scored 20 pts and PF Chris Campbell came off the bench to add 13 as LA Harbor (6-7) took control in the last 5 minutes of the game to top host LA Valley (2-8) 64-51 Tuesday night.
With the game tied at 46 and under 5 minutes to play, Harbor went on an 18-2 run to post the 13-point win. A three by SF Chris McCray, 2 FTs by Campbell and a FG+FT 3-point play by Campbell got the run started. Thte foul on that play was on LAVC Ctr Jayme Miller, and it was his fifth of the game. Without him, the Monarchs were defenseless to stop the run. SF Roderick Perry scored on a feed from Sutton and Campbell knocked down a jumper to push the lead to double-digits with under 2 minutes left, and the Seahawks cruised from there.
Early on, Valley jumped out to a 12-point lead in the first 12 minutes. Behind the scoring of Miller (6 pts), PG Marcus Rasberry (4 pts) and PF Jordan Rush (4 pts), Valley led 14-10 seven minutes into the game. Then Miller scored on a pair of putbacks and PF Aaron Johnson scored a field goal to push their lead to 22-10. Finally, a three by Harbor PG Bruce Bevans ended the visitors' drought with just over 7 minutes left in the half. Sutton and Bevans scored a pair of baskets in the final minutes of the half to cut Valley's halftime lead to 4 at 27-23.
Sutton led all scorers with 20 pts on 8/15 shooting. McCary grabbed a team-high 8 boards for Harbor, while Bevans had a strong game with 11 pts and 4 asts. Campbell made 4/5 FGs and 5/7 FTs for his 13 pts in an outstanding off-the-bench performance. Perry brought some energy and added 5 pts, 4 rebs and 2 blocks.
SG Dante Childress led Valley with 11 pts while Miller had 10 pts and 8 rebs before fouling out. PF Michael Martin came off the bench to score 6 pts and tie for team and game honors with 8 boards. PG Rai Colston had a strong game off the bench with 4 asts, 2 steals and no turnovers. But Valley shot just 34% for the game including 28.6% in the second half, and made just 8 of 19 free throws (42%).
