LA Harbor 79, Moorpark 71

Five players scored in double figures for visiting LA Harbor Saturday afternoon as the Seahawks won for the third time in four games, taking a 79-71 decision from Moorpark at the Raider Pavilion.

Harbor (3-4) led virtually all the way, but Moorpark (3-3) was within five points several times including once in the final minute before Harbor made three free throws in the final 28.9 seconds left to secure the win.

After PF Zach Davis scored the opening basket of the game for Moorpark, Harbor went on a 17-2 run, taking a 17-4 lead after a driving lay-up by PF Sheldon Blevins.

Moorpark cut the deficit to seven points at 23-16 after Ctr Jordan Garrett banked in a free throw to complete a 3-point play. But Harbor pushed the lead to back to 13 points at 31-18 after a driving lay-up by PF Andre Foster.

Moorpark rallied again, this time getting back into the game to stay. Garrett converted an alley-oop slam dunk off a pass from SG Spencer Levy to make it 36-27. Then Harbor turned the ball over on the inbounds play, with official Brady Chelette alertly noticing that Harbor SF Tony Bell stepped on the end line as he inbounded the ball. Then Levy hit a 3-pointer to make it 36-30 with just under four minutes left in the first half.

Moorpark trailed by five points at the half, 41-36, but got two quick baskets in the first minute-plus of the second half to get within a point at 41-40. And the Raiders took their first lead since the game's opening moments when SF D.J. Saul made a 3-point basket to put Moorpark in front, 45-44.

It would be a short-lived lead, however, as Harbor went right back in front on a short jumper by SG Shane Smith. A putback basket by Blevins made it 52-45. A steal & lay-up by Smith made it 57-48. Two free throws by Blevins pushed Harbor's lead to 59-48 with 12:49 left.

Moorpark cut the deficit back to six points on a Levy 3-pointer that made it 63-57 with just under seven minutes to play, and got within five points at 68-63 with 3:40 left. Harbor pushed the lead back to eight points in the final minute, but SF Matt Ramon got the deficit back to five for Moorpark with a 3-pointer with 38.1 seconds remaining.

But that would be Moorpark's final basket of the game. Foster split a pair of free throws for Harbor with 28.9 seconds left to make it 77-71. Then, after a Moorpark turnover, Bell made two free throws wtih 12.3 seconds left to make it 79-71 and clinch the win for the Seahawks.

Smith came off the bench for Harbor and led the Seahawks with 17 pts on 8-for-11 from the floor while adding 4 rebs, 5 asts and a steal. Bell had 15 pts, 6 rebs, 2 asts and a steal. Andre Foster had 15 pts, 8 rebs, a block and two steals, while PG Anthony Foster had 14 pts, 4 rebs, 2 asts and 4 steals. Blevins also scored in double figures with 13 pts and 6 rebs.

For Moorpark, Ramon had a game-high 20 pts, including a pair of threes, plus 6 rebs, 4 asts and 2 steals. Garrett had the game's only double-double with 17 pts and 10 rebs. But no other Raider scored in double figures. Davis finished with 6 pts and a game-high 11 rebs, but fouled out with 7:10 left, leaving Moorpark with just one available player taller than 6-2.

The win improves Harbor's record to 3-4, but the Seahawks, who feature 10 freshmen and just one sophomore, have now won three of their last four games. Moorpark falls to 3-3 on the season.
