SF DeAndre Denan had 15 pts, PF James Silvie had 12 and PG Michael Hernandez had 10 plus 6 assists as #12 Santa Ana (9-2) shot 64% in the first half and blew out LA Harbor (2-9), 82-59, in the second semifinal of the Roadrunner Round-up at Rio Hondo College.
This one was over at halftime, or perhaps even earlier than that. The Dons made 21 of 33 shots from the floor in the first half, going ahead, 54-24, at intermission, which allowed them to clear the bench and play reserves for most of the second half with the tournament championship game looming tomorrow night.
Harbor actually led at one point, 8-7, after a driving lay-up by SF Christopher Campbell, and were still tied at 10-10 after a bank shot by Campbell moments later.
But from then on, Santa Ana took over. A three by Denan put the Dons ahead, 13-10, and seemingly in an instant the lead was 11 at 25-14 after a three by PF John Staats. A lay-up by Hernandez pushed the margin past 20 at 45-24 with 2:12 left in the first half, and a jumper by SG Raymont Jennings increased the margin to 30 at 54-24 with 45 seconds left before halftime.
Eleven players played and eleven players scored for Santa Ana, which was without standout Tyre Thompson who apparently missed the team van to the game. PG Karl Dehasa was the top-scoring reserve with 10 pts while PF Rod Harmon added 9 pts (all on threes) and 6 rebs. Ctr Brandon Peterson had just 2 pts but grabbed 5 rebs and blocked 4 shots for the Dons.
For Harbor, Ctr Chris Mark posted a double-double with 13 pts and a game-high 16 rebs. SG Allen Harris added 12 pts, 6 rebs and 5 steals. Campbell had 10 pts and was the only other Seahawk to reach double figures.
