Fullerton 65, Riverside 59

SF Chris Williams scored 28 pts and grabbed 11 rebs to lead #8 Fullerton (5-2) to a 65-59 win over a stubborn Riverside (2-6) squad. Williams, playing forward only because of an injury to Bryce Sheldon, was named as Fullerton's representative on the all-tournament team.

Fullerton held a narrow lead much of the way until a three by SG Michael Lucas and a basket by Ctr Armando Cosio pulled Riverside to within 2 at 52-50. Then PF Steven Shewmake drilled a three to put the Tigers ahead, 53-52, with 3:30 to play.

But then a free throw by PG Paul Porter, a pullup jumper by Williams and a free throw by Ctr Michael Earl put Fullerton ahead by 3 at 56-53. A putback by Williams made it 58-53 with 1:30 left.

RCC closed the gap to 3 when Lucas hit a pullup jumper, and the defense held on Fullerton's next possession, giving RCC a chance to tie. But they lost the ball on a turnover on the break. And RCC kept within range in the final seconds, but Porter made 6 FTs in the final 25.4 seconds to secure the win for the Hornets.

In addition to Williams, Earl had a strong game with 17 pts, and Porter added 9. SF Trayvon Williams led RCC with 15 pts and 8 rebs in a reserve role. Lucas added 11 from off the bench. But none of the 5 RCC starters reached double figures in scoring.
