Fwd Michael Hernandez scored 21 pts and grabbed 10 rebs, and Ctr George Lewis scored 21 pts on 9/10 FGs to lead visiting Rio Hondo (4-1) to a 94-83 win over LA Pierce (2-5) in Woodland Hills.
Rio Hondo began the game on a 17-5 run, and though Pierce rallied to tie the game at 23, the Roadrunners soon re-established a double-digit lead and had a 48-33 edge at intermission. Pierce rallied to within 10 at 83-73 with 3-1/2 minutes left, but never got any closer.
Rio Hondo shot 62% in the first half (including 9 threes) and 57% for the game. In addition to Hernandez and G. Lewis, top Roadrunner performers included SG Eric Holland (16 pts, 4 asts) and 3rd G Bassanio Peters (7 pts, 7 asts).
Pierce was led by SG Sylvester Allison, who had 7 threes en route to a 30-point night. SF Kevin Johnson had a strong game with 16 pts and 14 rebs. PF Hanry "Tank" Aubrey came off the bench to add 21 pts, 6 rebs and 6 asts.
