
SF Chris Nelson had 13 pts, 3 asts and 3 steals to lead Fullerton to a come-from-behind 59-50 win over Cerritos in the Battle of Highway 91 in the finale of the SoCal Summer Heat Shootout.
Cerritos finished the first half with a 7-0 run to take a 28-21 halftime lead. but Fullerton answered with a 10-2 run to start the second half, taking a 32-31 lead. The lead went back and forth for the next several minutes with the final tie score occuring at 44-44.
Then Fullerton went on an 11-0 run to take control of the game. SG Greg Bewernick made a 2-pt free throw to break the 44-all tie, and SF DeAndre Kelly followed with a 3-pointer. A driving lay-up by Bewernick and a steal & lay-up by Nelson made it 53-44. A basket by SG Kevin Conrad after a pass from Kelly made it 55-44, and Fullerton led easily the rest of the way.
Nelson was the only Hornet to reach double figures, but SG Julian Caldwell had 7 pts, 9 rebs, 2 asts and 2 steals. PG Isaiah Johnson had 7 pts and 3 asts, and Conrad had 7 pts off the bench.
PG Robert Gill led Cerritos with 13 pts and he also had 2 asts. SF Willie Edwards had 8 pts, 4 rebs, 2 asts and 2 steals, and SG Anthony Holliday also had 8 pts. PF Dominique Kilgore came off the bench for 4 pts and a team-high 5 rebs.
