SG Wendell Lee poured in 25 points as LA Southwest shook off a sluggish start and led the entire second half in a 56-46 win over Irvine Valley.
Lee, showing himself to be fully recovered from the knee problems that sidelined him most of the season last year at El Camino, was 9-for-14 from the floor and drained 5 threes while compiling the highest individual scoring total on the day.
Irvine Valley jumped out to an 11-4 lead early in the game, but then Lee rallied Southwest, giving the Cougars a 12-11 lead with a pair of 3-pointers. A steal & jam by SF Delon Wright made it 14-11 and another Lee 3-pointer finished the 13-0 run to make it 17-11.
Southwest pushed the lead to 10 at 23-13 on a putback basket by Ctr Shannen Gardner and led by as many as 16 points at 32-16 in the first half. It was 32-20 at the break, and Southwest led by at least 8 points the entire second half.
PG Charles Glaster had 10 pts and a game-high 7 asts for Southwest, and PF Danny Morris had 9 pts. Gardner added 8 pts and a game-high 8 rebs.
For Irvine Valley, PF Zach Mills led the way with 12 pts and 5 rebs. SG Daython Spencer came off the bench for 10 pts, 2 asts and 3 steals. IVC played all freshmen with the exception of sophomore transfer Ctr Austin Loeb (Colorado Christian).
