Led by Center Jonathan Oliver's dominance inside, Ventura posted a high-flying win over Victor Valley despite a Jason Kidd-like performance by Rams' guard Brian Miano. The Pirates jumped out to a 21-6 early lead and never trailed after the opening moments of the game. Victor Valley got close with about 3 minutes left in the first half before a 12-0 Ventura run made it 45-25, and Ventura still led by 16 at the half. Victor Valley closed the gap to 6 at 56-50 and still trailed by the same margin at 61-55 before another 12-0 run salted the game away with about 9 minutes left.
Oliver finished the night with 20 pts, 11 rebs and 5 blocks. SG Keith West had 18 pts, 5 asts and 3 steals. G Anthonique Wilson chipped in 14 pts on 6 of 7 from the floor plus 5 asts and 3 steals. Overall, the Pirates shot 53% from the floor.
But some of the big individual numbers were on the Victor Valley side. PG Brian Miano finished with 22 pts, and game-highs of 13 rebs and 9 asts, narrowly missing a triple-double. SG Montreal Willingham had a game-high 26 pts as well as 4 steals for the Rams.
Ventura, ranked #2 in the South and #3 in California, moves to 11-1. Victor Valley falls to 2-7.
