CHARTER in BRIEF

GENERAL

The RSME Golf Society exists to enable all ranks, permanent staff, students and local ex HM Forces personnel of all golfing abilities to play golf during their tour or course at the RSME on an individual or team basis.

The society is run on a daily basis by a small Committee.

In addition to matches against local clubs, the Committee runs several subsidised events and competitions during the year, details of which can be found on Fixtures Page

SOCIETY MEMBERSHIP

Membership to the RSMEGS will be restricted to the following:

All serving/retired military and MOD civilians, and their dependants, that are currently employed at the RSME. Any member of the Armed Forces, past or present, and their dependants, that have settled in the Medway area subject to committee approval.

A local resident can be put forward by a society member to the committee for approval. If accepted into the society they will only be eligible for Society Membership. This means they are eligible for Society Matches and Events but are not eligible for the Deangate Ridge concession. If they prove to be an asset to the society they can be voted in at the next AGM by the committee for full membership that would include the Deangate Ridge concession.”

Those wishing to become a member are to apply to the Society Secretary. They will be required to complete a membership form, pay the necessary annual subscription and provide a passport photograph. Membership of the Society is on the understanding that applicants agree to abide with the RSME Golf Society Charter and any amendments that may, from time to time, be promulgated by the committee.

Membership will be continuous throughout the year and members cannot opt out of paying subscriptions during the winter months. Existing members are entitled to pay quarterly pro-rata if in receipt of a posting order or obtain a refund if the full subscription has already been paid.

ATTENDANCE AT ANNUAL EVENTS

All Society members taking the Deangate Ridge GC concession are required to attend at least a total of one Society Match and one Society meeting OR two Society Meetings OR two Society Matches per golf season. Members who fail to meet this requirement will not be permitted to renew their membership of the Society in future years. By taking up membership of the RSME GS you agree to abide by this ruling. There is no opting out from this arrangement.

TIES

It is a condition of membership that all Society members must possess a RSMEGS tie which is to be worn when dress code dictates; this is normally confined to Annual Society meetings and matches. The cost of a tie is currently £12.

FACILITIES AVAILABLE

Apart from the, Spring, Summer and Autumn Meetings, the society can offer the following facilities:

Rochester & Cobham Park Golf Club

R&CPGC is the home course of the RSME GS for Society Matches and in order to maintain the current good relationship with the Club, it is essential that members visiting the course abide by R&CPGC rules and conduct themselves in an exemplary and responsible manner.

Deangate Ridge Golf Club A member of the Society may take up the option to play at Deangate Ridge Golf Club at an agreed concessionary rate after the payment of an additional annual subscription, whereon he will then be known as a Deangate Society Member (See Subscriptions for Fees). Annual subscription charges may vary depending upon the annual fee levied by Medway Council to the RSMEGS. These charges and the number of passes purchased will be disseminated at the RSMEGS AGM.

(1) Deangate Society Members will be registered at the Golf Club and must produce their Society Membership Card when requested to do so. Deangate Society Members may play midweek, weekends and Bank Holidays using one of the Seven day season tickets available to the Society.

(2) It is the responsibility of Deangate Society Members to check at the time of booking that there are sufficient unused slots for him to play with his/her partners. The Society will not reimburse any member who has to pay the full rate for a round of golf.

(3) In order to ensure maximum use of the 8 x season tickets purchased by the RSMEGS, Deangate Society Members are requested to book on and off the course at the Pro's shop to permit the maximum use of the passes.

(4) The Pro’s shop will be supplied with a current list of Deangate Society Members by the RSME GS Secretary in order to check membership cards on booking in.

HANDICAP SYSTEM

10. To ensure that all players, regardless of their ability, can play with an equal opportunity of winning, a handicap system is maintained by the Handicap Member.

All scorecards must be submitted to the Handicap Member Nigel Williams regardless of time of year or amount of holes played.

New members will be required to submit 3 scorecards to receive a valid handicap. The list of handicaps will be amended and published as necessary.

SPRING SUMMER AND AUTUMN MEETINGS

Society trophies are available for the Spring, Summer and Autumn meetings. In brief there will be an A & B Div Stableford competition at each meeting with the divisional cut off decided by the event organiser. There will also be a trophy awarded for the best gross score of the day. Each event organiser will also be allocated a prize fund.

GENERAL NOTES

An AGM will be held each year. A minimum of 20 members, not including the Committee, is required to present a quorum for voting purposes.

SUBSCRIPTIONS
