STUART WHITEHEAD
It was a long hard season for United, when did you realise we were in a relegation fight? The last three weeks hit home, that there was a possibility we could go down, as Scarborough won three out of four games.
In the week before the match, how did you feel? It was a feeling of failure. We hadn't fulfilled our potential. And there was a possibility of being part of a team that relegated Carlisle from the Football League.
On the morning of the match, did you feel more nervous than usual? Definitely, I don't think many of us had much sleep the previous night.
Even before the game started the crowd was larger and more vocal than previous games. Did that effect you? That showed what the game meant to the city. We knew there was no way we could lose this game. So we were all focused and pumped up for the game.
We had to rely on Peterborough getting a result at Scarborough. Did you hear that they had scored an early goal while you were on the pitch? There was so much noise, we didn't really know what was happening.
When the Dobie goal was disallowed, did you feel it wouldn`t be our day? This was so disappointing because we felt it was a fair goal. But we just had to get on with things.
At half time were you optimistic? We were. But we knew that there was a long way to go and anything could happen.
When Phillips scored for Plymouth, what were your feelings? Dejection, our shoulders sunk. But if we went down we were going down fighting.
At the end of normal time, Colin Carter could be heard on the tannoy, announcing the Scarborough final score and lifting the crowd to fever pitch. Did you hear the Scarborough score? Again, we were concentrating on the game so we didn't know what was happening with the other game.
Did you know how close we were to time when Anthony went to take that last corner? Yes. The referee said it was our last chance as there was only 10 seconds to go.
When Dobie's header went straight to the keeper, did you think, "game over"? It all happened so quickly we didn't think anything.
When did you first realise Jimmy was there? I didn't even know Jimmy had come up for the corner.
After Jimmy scored, the whole ground erupted, did you fear the match would be stopped? I did, yes. There was so many people on the pitch.
What were your feelings when the final whistle went? Pure elation. I've never had a feeling like it before. It was the best feeling of my life. I've never seen so many people as happy as that before. I doubt I'll ever have a feeling like that again in football.
