Welcome To Valley Horse Rides

Merthyr Tydfil

South Wales

The aim of this site is to provide the Horserider,Cyclist, and Public alike with information on bridleways, rights of way and circular horse rides within the Merthyr Tydfil Valleys South Wales, and the Brecon Beacons National Park Mid Wales, as well as giving the first time Tourist a taste of what The Valleys have to offer

These have been accompanied by a number of photographs showing some of the spectacular and scenic countryside around the Merthyr Tydfil Valleys,as well as Historic sites such as Cyfarthfa Castle and Park set in 160 acres of spectacular park land and once the home of the Iron Master William Crawshay.

I have also provided plans indicating circular horse rides ranging in distance from 5k - 30k approx (These are also suitable for the more experienced mountain biker and walker ). Wherever possible I have indicated rest stops along the way, some will provide refreshments in various forms from a cup of tea to a full meal.

Where rides head Generally North of Merthyr Tydfil Town Centre they will take in vast areas of the Brecon Beacons National Park with spectacular views over Pontsticill Resovoir, Brecon Mountain Railway, Talybont Resovoir.

Where rides head generally South of the town to the South East you will find yourself riding high above the Valley with the villages set far below.

Riding on the South Western side of the Valley you can take in the Taff Trail the long distance path linking the City Of Cardiff to the country town of Brecon, designed for cyclists, walkers, and in most parts horseriders the Trail passes through a variety of landscapes, allowing the user to explore the beauty of the Taff Valley.

Running alongside the River Taff this section running North towards the Brecon Beacons National Park again has spectacular views as well as the abundance of wildlife.

Passing through the town of Merthyr Tydfil the area has an abundance of Historic sites to visit these include the Trevithics Tunnel the home of the first steam locomotive, the Blast Engine House,Cyfarthfa Castle and Museum set in 160 acres of parkland incorporating a Caffeteria that serves traditional dishes each day along with a Bowling Green, Miniture Railway, Fishing lake, and several scenic walks through mature woodlands.
