My name is Binly Phounsily. I am a freshman at Eastlake High School. This is my first year in a Pre-A.P. English and World History block program. The other classes I have are fun, and these are interesting but tough. The whole years was filled with surprises. But I am happy I was able to live a normal life with all of the accelerated Work given to me.
The hardships in freshman year were all faced. The tough thing about basic Eastlake routines were the block schedules. Till this day I sometimes get confused. We would have two days on average to do a homework assignment on "A" day, and the same goes for B days. Studying for a test or quiz is more independent because you see your teachers 3 times out of your 5 days. It’s tough when you now have to rely on yourself to remember the project or work you have to do. There is more essay activity in the Pre-A.P. Classes Than the regular. The teachers teach and nail you down with activities until this type of work is natural. The complex work only prepares you for next year.
This year I had my triumphs in school. My greatest one is that I can live the life I love with school not being much of a stress problem. My essay writing has improved greatly from last year. I am able to adapt to the Eastlake environment without much trouble. I am proud I am able to rush myself and at the same time pace myself with content though. I usually have A’s or B’s in my Classes. I am glad I built a relationship with my teachers that is fun and worth having in a student – teacher kind of way. They are able to educate and motivate students. Being a freshman at Eastlake is a great experience.
