Reflection on Essay

This essay is a “Timed Writing Essay” in which you have to write and answer a prompt in class.  The timed I had to finish in this essay was 35 minutes.  In this essay you had to describe the impact Stalin had on industrialization, collectivization, and the Purge of citizens of the Soviet Union under Stalin.  You also had to answer whether the positive aspects justify the suffering brought on by Stalin’s revolution.  The third part of the essay is answering why or why not.  You had to answer these three parts with a thesis, concrete details, and commentary as the framework of your essay.  The time frame for this essay is 35 minutes because it was an in class timed writing.

I learned how to use my given time wisely by not rushing or slowing down.  This is crucial in time writings because every second counts.  I liked giving my opinions in this essay.  What I didn’t like was preparing for it because it reminded me of a test.  I get nervous and mess up during my studying for a test and I did so here on my essay.

This essay exemplifies the ESLR of a self – directed learner because I had to learn the material before I can use it to write my essay.  A self – directed learner uses skill and knowledge to achieve personal education and career goals, and I was able to accomplish it.  I studied the chapter and made pre-writes to better prepare myself for the essay.  I was also honest in not looking at other people’s ideas while writing the essay because I don’t cheat.  This essay proves I am a self-directed learner.
