Graphics (pictures and images) need to be saved in a compressed file format like JPEG or GIF.
To add an image to a web page you use the IMG tag (tells the browser that this is an image) and the SRC attribute (tells browser where to get the file from).
The image below was saved as butterfly.gif and resides in the same folder as all the other web pages.
Note: There is no closing tag

You can use images as hyperlinks. To do this you place the IMG tag and its attributes between the open and close anchor tags.

This image Links to Geocities.com where you can get free space for your web site!
The IMG tag also has an attribute for aligning images relative to the text in the page. The attribute is ALIGN and the values are LEFT, RIGHT, CENTER
For example:

TOP
You can also add images to tables.

The image below was easily created using word Art in Microsoft Word!. Once the art work was finished it was copied and pasted in paintbrush.
It was then saved as a gif file. From the toolbar select Image - attributes and tick transparency. This will make the background transparent.
