“Tapping into Improved System Monitoring” Background Automation Software Engineering has enhanced Groupe
Schneider's Telemecanique Monitor 77 DOS SCADA system, to provide additional
system monitoring, measurement and security measures at South East Water's
Holywell Cockhaise Water Treatment Works. South
East Water has upgraded its Holywell Cockhaise water treatment plant in a £1
million refurbishment project managed by Dynamco and Purac. The project
consisted of refurbishing the existing works and clarifiers, included the
provision of three new filters, a backwash water holding tank, contact and
balance tanks, plus new highlift pumps, chlorination, sulphonation and chemical
dosing pumps. Holywell
is equipped with the latest Telemecanique PLC equipment and SCADA system, to
provide greater accuracy and more detailed information on the chlorination and
movement of water at the East Sussex Works. The Problem Telemecanique’s
Monitor 77 SCADA - a badged version of USDATA’s FactoryLink software -
didn’t go far enough in meeting South East Water’s specification for
monitoring water levels and stricter security controls. Solution Automation
Software Engineering
(ASE), were engaged to enhance the
Telemecanique Monitor 77 SCADA with additional digital events and password
control facilities. The
digital events facility was specified to individually monitor and log to a file
each I/O point received from the numerous pumps and valves in the plant for a
period of 7 days or 1000 events. Any difficulty in monitoring reservoir or tank
levels, the operator can now simply scroll back on screen through the previously
logged digital events and identify the cause of the problem. |
