Humanity began experimenting with cloning at the close of the Twentieth century, they were able to effect creatures on a genetic level in an effort to improve them. In time scientists were able to create super soldiers genetically enhanced to the upper limits of the human genetic code. The Replicant's as they where dubbed fought along side cyberneticly enhanced humans. They where more cost effective, easier to maintain and quicker to create in mass, than the cyberneticly enhanced soldiers, with fewer side effects. They soon became the main line infantry of the battlefield, though not all replicants where designed for battle, some models where designed for hard labor, personal assistants, and even pleasure.

Some Humanitarian Movements have tried to get Replicants recognized as sentient beings with the same full rights as any other human. To combat this corporations lowered the creative thinking and initiative drive of their creations and made sure they had few desires beyond what was genetically programed into them. Most are treated only a little better than complex machines or slaves, though with the recent AI revolt, humanity has been keeping a closer eye on there replicant slaves.

There are four primary types of Replicants.

Type 1 - Designed for combat, they are strong, tough, quick and trained to follow any order unquestionably. They are physically large, all looking eerily similar to one another. Common among this type is a blank look on their face lacking any perceived emotion.

Type 2 - Designed for hard labor, mining, hazardous cleanup, construction in hazardous environments or any other job that humanity doesn't want to do and feels a robot cost too much to perform it. Many type 1's that have a genetic defects are sold as type 2's. They are very large like the type 1's with similar looks but with a dull witted look.

Type 3 - Designed to be a person or families personal assistant. While not a very popular model, as most prefer androids or robots for these roles, a few are sold. Mostly to lower income individuals trying to make a statement of wealth and prestige with out having either. They typically appear as good looking fit humans, with a cheerfull disposition at all times.

Type 4 - Really the type 4 is just the unsuccessful type 3, retrained and resold as pleasure models. The newer models are much more attractive than the earlier ones, but already the android market is beginning to cut into sales. With the lower cost of Androids and the new limited AI cybernetic brains, which can be directly programed with the exact personality desired by the buyer, not to mention they can be quickly custom made to the exact specifications from hair color to body size to the exact wishes of the customer much more quickly and easily than replicants can. Now most type 4's are sold to those that insist on the "real" thing or low class cat house's that cater to the lowest of humanity.
