Title: THE DAWN-BREAKERS Project: feature film >> THE PRODUCER << Keene Productions carries into a third generation a family heritage in the motion picture business of the managing general partner, Dr. James J. Keene. In the early 19OO's, a major film pioneer in the development of the film industry in New York and California, his great uncle, Earle W. Hammons, one of many family members involved in show business, established major studios and produced numerous silent and sound films, short subjects, comedies and feature length pictures, including the screen presentations of such major stars as Shirley Temple, Danny Kaye, and Bing Crosby. Mr. Hammons was a founder of the Motion Picture Association of America and handled the Mack Sennett (King of Comedy) comedies, one featuring Buster Keaton. According to "The New York Times," Hammons produced over 3,000 films. He founded Educational Pictures, and was one of the first to import and distribute foreign films in the U.S. He acquired and merged film companies such as World Wide Pictures, Tiffany Studios and later Grand National with stars such as James Cagney under contract. The writer's father, Rogers C. Keene, a general consultant for this project, literally grew up in the motion picture business. He was a child actor in the silent comedies which preceded and were of similar genre to the "Our Gang" series. Over a life-time, he grew into a career in directing, editing, and production of innumerable films of all varieties, such as 160 television shows and daring expeditions to film subjects as the Philippino headhunters. Indeed, he represents a unique resource, as few can compare in knowledge and experience in all aspects of motion picture production. And now, ladies and gentlemen, dim the lights! THE DAWN-BREAKERS is starting. Copyright (c) 1988-2009 James J Keene
