STEPHEN HENRY MARS
Stephen Henry Mars was born in Bellvale, Orange County, New York to Stephen Mars and Anna Mary DeGraw Mars on November 16, 1877. He married Bertha Jane Ballard on April 27, 1898 at the home of his parents in Florida, New York. The ceremony was conducted by Rev. Dr. Bonner. Bertha Jane Ballard is the daughter of John Ballard and Mary Elizabeth Barrett Ballard. She was born January 30, 1876 in Ulsterville, Ulster Co., NY.
For most of his life, he lived in Orange County, New York. In 1903, Stephen Henry Mars accepted a position as a foreman at the Borden's Condensed Milk Co. in Beemerville, Sussex County, New Jersey. His wages were $2.00 per day. From 1903 to at least 1914 he resided in Sussex County, New Jersey. First at Beemerville and then in Andover. Soon after 1914, he moved to Washingtonville, Orange County, New York and remained there until his death. Stephen Henry Mars earned a living as a carpenter. He attended the Presbyterian Church in Florida, New York.
Stephen Henry Mars and Bertha Jane Ballard Mars had two children. Everett Clinton Mars was born on March 23, 1899 at Florida, New York. At some point early in his life, he reversed his name to Clinton Everett Mars. Helen Ann Mars was born on November 1, 1904 at Beemerville, Sussex County, New Jersey.
Stephen Henry Mars died at his home in Washingtonville, New York on March 12, 1952. He was buried on March 15, 1952 in the Family Plot (Lot #267, Section G, Grave No. 9), Warwick Cemetery, Warwick, New York. Bertha Jane Ballard Mars died at the Sunset Haven Rest Home, Ridgebury, New York on January 3, 1957. She was buried on January 6, 1957 in the Family Plot (Lot #267, Section G, Grave No.10), Warwick Cemetery. "Married. A quiet wedding took place in our little village of Florida (the land of flowers and brides) at the home of the bridegroom on the evening of April 27, 1898. Mr. Stephen Mass and Miss Bertha Ballard were joined together with bonds of holy matrimony in a pleasing way. Both are active members of Goodwill Lodge No. 51 of Florida. Both resided in Florida and will still reside here and still continue to be members of Goodwill." From "The Official Organ."

Mr. Steven Mars, c/o B.C.M. Co., Florida, N.Y.
Dear Sir:
When you are ready to go to Beemerville, you can notify Mr. Whitford, who will go with you and install you in that plant as foreman. The plant will be run in connection with Branchville, Mr. DeGroff remaining the Superintendent. At present we cannot run the Beemerville plant as a separate branch.
We wish you would report there September 1st. Mr. Whitford will give you necessary instructions in regard to the running of that plant, and by telephone connection with Mr. DeGroff you can get what advices you need at any time. Your wages will be $2.00 per day.
