(Louisville Area) The dog is a good boy...for a whole male he isn't even growly. He wants a human very badly to be 'his' and is fairly smart. His name is Bow Bow and he is about ten months old. He came to the vet clinic with a dislocated right rear leg and a broken left rear leg. These were repaired and the owners reneged on the barter for the payment (and they haven't called about the doggie, either). Another typical case of medical abandonment. He weight bears fairly well on the repaired left rear leg, and the dislocated right leg went back in and hasn't been a problem since. The people had fifty bucks (they said) to their name, so the vet recommended euthanasia for the suffering dog. Bow put his mouth on the doc's arm, never offering to bite, just to let him know he hurt. The vet refused to euthanize him, saying he was too nice a dog to throw away. Now we need a home. We are all maxed out that work at or with the clinic. Can anyone help? Contact: Marguerite Lamb

Name: Shannon Hill. Can you please help a sweet rott? Message: I am writing to you from Virginia, but writing for my younger sister who lives in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. She was on her way home yesterday (March 28, 2002) when she picked up a Rottweiler that was nearly starved to death and having a hard time walking. She took him to the vet this morning with the intent to get him treatment and either keep him or give him to me. The vet took some x-rays and found some things wrong with the dog. I will try to explain it as best I can, but I apologize that I do not know a whole lot about medical terminology. The vet stated that the dog was "neurological" but that this was something that he could overcome with the proper treatment. Apparently when he "folded" the dogs feet under him, he made no attempt to straighten them out. He has "hip displacia". He mentioned that they would like to see 70% of the hip inside of something (I can't remember the word), but that this dog only has 20% on his right hip. The most major problem is that the dog has a torn crucian (?) (ACL) ligament which causes him not to be able to manuver his back end well. This injury would require surgery as it will not heal on its own. The surgery would cost my sister $600 and the doctor also mentioned that the dog would most likely have to be on a medication his whole life. I am not sure what that would be for though. The dog was severely abused and mistreated. He has some "hard spots" on areas of his bones (legs) where the vet said it appears he was kept on very hard surface (for living). The vet said that with treatment, the dog has a good chance at a happy, normal life, which is why we do not want to put him to sleep. My sister says that he is a happy dog and has not been aggressive with her. When my dad came to help lift him into the truck to go to the vet, he did get a bit temperamental and was growling. He appears to be about 3 years old and is a cinnamon brown color. We believe he has the potential to be pretty large as his head and feet are huge. Right now, it is hard to tell given that he is so malnourished. We do not have the money available to put him through the surgery and to afford his medication that he will have to be on. I was wondering if there is any way that he could be taken in by the Rottweiler rescue organization and given a chance at a happy life? My sister is willing to bring him to the rescue shelter if someone could help this dog. She refuses to take him to a regular shelter, as she knows that he will live in pain until they finally put him to sleep. I appreciate you taking the time to read this and for giving me any help that you can offer. We grew up with a Rottweiler and know that if treated properly they are the most loyal and sweet dogs you could ask for. I guess that is why it is so hard to see this poor dog in the condition that he is in. We have enough medication to last him 10 days and then we will have to decide what to do. Any assistance you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much, Shannon Hill shill@rappelec.com

My neighbor has agreed to let me find her neglected Rottweiler a home. We are in Owensboro KY, the dog is and intact 2yo male named kyler. He is a neglected dog, a little leery of strangers. But, once he gets to know you, he is a big baby. I am desperate to find him a home, as I am unable to have pets. Please help........ Tracy Rice.

We have a 2 year old female that has been neutered. She is a big teddy bear (only 100lb) that loves to cuddle. She is very good with small children and other dogs, especially puppies. She is very motherly, protective of small children and puppies. She was raised with a Jack Russel Terrier with an attitude, so she is willing to be 2nd dog. She is also an indoor dog, never really outside except to do her business and for walks. If you could help in finding her a home we would be indebted to you. Please call if you can give this big sweety a home (859)245-7189. Shane Bruckner.

am emailing you from the Bowling Green Humane Society in Bowling Green, KY. We have a rottweiler at our shelter that was almost put to sleep last week because of his temperament. Maybe you can help me, I am not really sure, but I thought I might give this a shot. His name is Albert, and he is currently at our shelter right now, he is not neutered but we can take care of that with no problem, we think he is actually a German rottweiler and he weighs about 165 lbs. His biggest problem like I said is his temperament. He was brought to us for killing cats, and does not like other dogs. I know it is hard to place a dog like him, but any help would be greatly appreciated. John Tower

I have found a very sweet, adult female in Louisville, Ky, Brownsboro Rd. area. Her teeth are very clean, and her coat looks good-she has not been on the run too long, and definitely is a pet. Very nice dog, and tolerates my border collies well. Over the long holiday weekend, add in newspaper classified not placed, hopefully will start running Weds, 29th. Any suggestions in case I cannot locate her family?
