Name: D.W. Subject: Rott needing home Message: We have a Rott in Chariton Iowa. His name is Bear, he's not neutered, his age is unknown but we guess him to be about 7. He is extremely lovable and would be a lap dog if he could be. He has had an abusive past, we were told that his previous owners kept him locked in a small kennel in a basement for the first + year of his life. He spent the following few years with the owner that kept him in a small kennel in the city. We have had him for three years now. During that time he has enjoyed all the freedoms of an outdoor farm dog. He no longer responds well to closed spaces and seems to enjoy being around other animals. He doesn't get along with other male dogs too well though. He has never been around children. We are unsure if he would be okay around young children. We are moving and will no longer be able to provide him with the life style he seems to love. We would like to find a "retirement" home for him. Loving, affectionate owners a must!!! He is starting to have hip problems and could use more care than we are currently able to provide. Any help that could be provided would be extremely appreciated. people@lisco.com

Name: Lavon Wallace. Need home for Rottweiler Message: Sammy, female neutered, 3 years old, Council Bluffs, IA. Sammy is a big baby, couch potatoe. Sammy is loveable. When my daughters cat had kittens Sammy took them away from their cat mother and made them her own. Sammy even started lactating although she never nursed the kittens herself. Sammy needs lots of love and attention, she does not like to be alone. My daughter, Anna, is moving to California and is unable to take Sammy with her. I have 3 dogs so I will not be unable to take Sammy. Could you please find her a home?

Our 6 year old unspayed female rott in Council Bluffs, Iowa, is looking for a new home. Athena has always been an outside dog, however, we have moved to a house without a fence, so Athena now has to stay on a chain. My husband startd working out of town. I work full time and have a new baby. We don't have time for our dog, and I feel she deserves a better life than what we can provide. She has not been socialized very much, she barks at people who come to our house, but calms down and is usually docile and friendly upon getting to know someone. She is very protective of our 3 kids. Athena has been to obedience training when she was younger, but we have not kept up her training. She reacts well around our pug, and other dogs that she has come in contact with, but does not like our cat. We have contacted the Humane Society in Council Bluffs and Omaha looking for a rescue league and the numbers they both had were disconnencted or the wrong numbers. We do not want Athena to go to a Humane Society with the possiblity of being euthanized. Please help us find a home for Athena. She has AKC papers, but was never Registered. Amanda Sockrider Email:

I do not own this dog. He was brought into an animal shelter today by his owner. I believe he has a dislocated shoulder. He is extremly emaciated, but very friendly. He is neutered. I cannot take him I already own a rottie, but I would be willing to pay his adoption fee if you could take him. He needs vet care but I have 2 children myself and cannot afford it.The look in this rotts eye when his owner left was heart breaking. The owner stated the rott came to his house a month ago and had been hit by a car, so he has suffered all this time. In the time I spent w/ him he was very friendly and showed no aggresion towards other dogs. The only thing he did while I played w/ him was wag his tail(stub) Please respond ASAP "George" does not have much time left. You are the last resort. Thank youfor your time.Sincerely,Lori Brush djarum23@aol.com

owner Bob Herrington called trying to find a no kill shelter or rescue to place his 9 month old female Rottweiler, Siraya (Sir-A-ya). He got her from a friend after his other Rottweiler died at the age of 12 in December (the pup was 4 months old at that point). This girl is NOT working out and appears to have some issues. She is extremely possessive and is very aggressive to the other dog in the house, a schnauzer. She pins her and will bounce her off of the deck. She will not let the other dog eat. She also exhibits some bizarre circling behavior in the yard. Bob says that she willsimply run in circles in various spots of the yard for no reason. She always runs in the same circles. She is registered and he is trying to contact the breeder (he has the papers). Doesn't think the breeder will care. Siraya is going to the shelter on Monday because Bob is scared that she will seriously injure his other dog. He is willing to pay all shelter costs and also spay costs if we can take or place her. Basically he is out of his depth and cannot figure outhow to handle this one. She is completely different than his previous Rott. The Sioux City shelters will hold her for quite a while and will not euthanize unless they fill up or she bites. I'm not terribly certain that this one should be saved. His description of her behavior sets off huge warning bells in my mind. But without a hands on evaluation I couldn't tell him that directly. We have one resource in the area, Pamela Marsh of South Sioux City NE. She might be willing to evaluate Siraya but is probably going to take some convincing from me since we has something of a nasty mess on the last dog she evaluated. Pam is a highly experienced Rottweiler owner and show handler. She knows her dogs and has done some rescue also. I'd completely trust her evaluation. She is, however, very soft hearted.
