Willian was - with Norton and
Letchworth - one of the three original villages on the Letchworth Estate prior
to the coming of the Garden City. Willian retains its "separate" feel
and is interesting both for its small but well preserved church, and its
"inside-out" appearence, caused by the diversion of the main road
through the village from the from of Willian Hall round to the back during the
19th century. The village also includes two old pubs - the Three Horseshoes (not
to be confused with its Norton namesake) - which still lies on the line of the
old road - and the Fox, opposite the duck pond. Willian Farm, with its popular
farm shop and picnic area, completes the village. |

Letchworth - an otherwise small town in north Hertfordshire, England - is famous as being the world's first "Garden City", being founded in 1903 by Ebenezer Howard. Many social and planning innovations that we take for granted today first appeared in Letchworth. For more information on the town see here. |
