I was born in London in 1950. In 1952 we moved to India. We travelled by sea. A long voyage of which I remember nothing. In 1955 we were on the move again, Lisbon, Khartoum, and then Tehran. I returned to England in 1970. I never really knew what I wanted to do. I tried copywriting, underwriting, matchbook printing, bookselling, and finally computer programming, which I stuck with. I worked at the University of Sussex from 1978 until I retired in 2005. I live with my artist wife in a little village on the South Downs. She designed the cover of my book. I spend my time reading, writing, walking, gardening, playing chess, and learning poetry. This is my first book. I've found what I want do, and am now writing a second. By the way the reader of chapter 2 is my actor son Alexander Barnes.
