The new FW-190A-8 modification - serial production of which began in February 1944 - was a further development of the FW-190A-7 fighter. This modification became the most common mass-produced model of all FW-190s. It was constructed in all Fokke-Wulf factories and other companies that produced the FW-190 under license.
In terms of construction, the new modification was based on the FW-190A-7 fighter with the added installation of a MW-50 boost that used a 115-liter tank containing a water-methanol mixture placed behind the pilot. The mixture had an anti-explosion effect and served to cool the fuel mixture. Uninterrupted forcing of the engine was possible for 10 minutes, though the pause between forcing sessions could not be less than 5 minutes. If necessary, the 115-liter tank could be used as an additional fuel tank.
To install an afterburning system, the designers had to slightly modify the fuselage construction. The radio station was moved forward to make up for the greater weight; E?C-501 racks were moved in a similar fashion.
As was the case with the FW-190A-5, the aircraft was unified for various armaments and could be used to fulfill a variety of military tasks.
