Place Value Bingo

1. Objective:
Students will play the place value game, which represents the math content that they have been going over in class. The objective is for the students to be able to determine the tens and ones columns with pictures and numbers.
2. Anticipatory Set:
The teacher will build on their prior knowledge of place values and two-digit numbers. The teacher will go over what place values and two-digit numbers are right before the activity.
3. Materials:
Game Boards (students use)
Place Value Cards (numerical and cubes)
Manipulative
Place markers
4. Procedures:
1. Anticipatory Set
2. Give Directions to the entire class
a) Students will each get a game board
b) Students will each get Eight Place Markers
c) Students need to listen and pay attention to the teacher in order to play the game
d) Students who DO NOT follow directions will receive two warnings depending on the nature of the discipline and after two warnings will be asked to sit out of the game working on their seat work at another table.
e) The winners of the games will receive a prize (all students in the end will receive a prize if they did not have to leave the game).
f) Students should not get to loud during this game. If they do that need to be told to lower their voices (use inside voices)
3. Once there is a winner or winners the students must repeat back to me the numbers for each column on there game board. (Some game boards have pictures representing the number but they still have to tell the teacher what the number is.
4. Students are advised NOT to clear off their boards until it is determined that this child has won.
5. Once it is determined that the student has won or lost we continue on a new game or with the same game.
5. Assessment:
Each student will be assessed before the game, during the game, and after the game by repeating what place values are and how to determine the number shown by the place values or by the numerical representation.
6. Closure:
Today the students went over place values and this game was just to help them connect what ones and tens are when doing their math. This game will have helped them understand the differences between the columns and what the numbers represent.
7. Active Participation Activities:
During or after the anticipatory set the teacher should ask some questions to check the students understanding one more time before the game.
