“Oh, this is the CUTEST!” Britney holds up a deep pink halterneck top.
“It’s uh PINK,” states Jade.
“Well I like pink.”
“I noticed,” Jade rolls her eyes and Britney laughs. “You should shop with AJ.”
“He’s good?”
“The best,” Jade grins and turns to watch the in-store TV. “Oh my God!” she giggles and Britney turns round as well. “Is that supposed to be NSync?!”
“Yeah,” Britney watches part of Eminem’s video for The Real Slim Shady where he catches one of NSync and farts in his face. “I think that was Lance!” she exclaims and Jade laughs.
“That is so funny!”
“Don’t think Lance would agree,” Jensen giggles.
“Lance needs to get his head outta his butt!” Britney says and the girls stare at her in shock before giggling. “What?! He totally DOES!”
“Aw, I only met him like twice but I thought he was ok. A little quiet,” Jade adds.
“Isn’t he gay?” asks Courtney.
“Totally!” Britney and Jade say at the same time and then giggle.
“He won’t admit it to himself but he SO is,” Britney adds.
“You just get that vibe off him,” Jade agrees. “Ooh, I LOVE that!” she gets distracted by a sparkly black top. It’s pretty low-cut and wraps around the waist. “You guys?” she holds it up.
“Sexy,” Britney says.
“It’ll suit you,” thinks Jensen.
“Cool,” giggles Courtney.
“Try it on!” orders Laura Lynne.
“Yes ma’am,” Jade giggles and heads off to the changing rooms.
“I just LOVE members-only clubs,” Britney tells me as we all walk into The Blue Room. “I just know I’m gonna have a good time with nobody to stare and stuff.”
“I bet people will still stare,” I say. “But they’ll probably be famous too so you can stare right back!”
“Yay!” she laughs and we walk up to the bar.
“Hey Britney,” greets the barman. “What can I get ya?”
“Red Bull and coke, thanks. What do you guys want?”
“Same,” Courtney says.
“JD and coke,” says Jensen.
“Sounds good to me,” I laugh.
“Me three,” grins Laura Lynne and Britney orders our drinks.
“Thanks,” I say as she hands mine over. I take a sip just as a guy comes up to us. I recognise him as Wade Robson and grin at him. The guy is seriously hot with his blonde tipped spiky hair, smouldering brown eyes and a curvy smile. Damn shame I already met Brian… Ah well, no law against looking is there? Or flirting, come to think of it. I’m gonna have some fun tonight.
“Britters!” he greets her and gives her a quick hug. “You look good.”
“Thanks,” she smiles. “You too. Meet my girls – Jensen, Courtney, Laura Lynne and Jade.”
“Hey,” he tells each girl until he gets to me. “Jade,” he kisses my hand. “The reason I’m here,” he grins and I try not to blush too much.
“I am? Why’s that?”
“I keep seein’ pictures of you all over. And Joey was singing your praises last time I saw him,” he grins and leans in close to me. I can smell alcohol on his breath and lean back. “I just had to check you out for myself.”
“Well, now you have,” I smile. “Hope it’s not too much of a disappointment.”
“Not at all,” he winks.
“Wow Wade,” Britney laughs. “I’ve never seen you be such a smoothy.”
“You’ve never seen me with Jade,” he counters and she throws me a look.
“Hmm… Lucky Jade.”
“So, Jade… Wanna dance?” he turns back to me.
“Uh, anybody else, I’d say yes.”
“What’s wrong with me?” he pouts.
“You’re a choreographer and dancer,” I point out. “I’d be paranoid you’d be marking me out of ten!”
“I won’t,” he laughs. “Promise.”
“Yeah, yeah,” I roll my eyes.
“Jade, come here a minute,” Britney takes my arm and moves me away from the others. “Word of warning. Wade is a TOTAL flirt and he won’t let that you have a boyfriend get in his way if he really wants ya. And he sure wants ya right now. Plus, I think he’s drunk.”
“Thanks Brit, but I can handle him.”
“Long as ya know,” she shrugs and we walk back to the others.
“Hows about that dance Jade?” he asks.
“Wade and Jade,” Laura Lynne suddenly says. “Oh my GOD.”
“That’s bad!” Britney giggles.
“It is,” I agree with a grin and Wade laughs.
“One of us would have to change their name,” he states before grabbing my hand. “I’m not lettin’ you say no,” he tells me and pulls me off to the dancefloor.
“Fine. But no dissing my moves.”
“Would I?” he looks innocent.
“Hey, I watched you totally diss NSync on Making The Tour.”
“True but you’re WAY better looking,” he grins.
“Good to know,” I laugh and my cell rings. I grab it and Wade grimaces.
“You should leave those things at the door. Way to ruin a moment.”
“I didn’t realise we were having a moment,” I tell him and check the display. “I gotta go answer this.”
“Ok. But you ya BETTER come back,” he warns as I walk away.
“Hey babes,” I answer the cell.
“Hey you,” Brian says.
“Hang on…” I head outside and sit on the curb. “Ok, I’m out.”
“Where were ya?”
“The Blue Room. It’s a club in LA.”
“Ah okies. With Britney?”
“And her girlfriends. We’re having a total girls’ night,” I giggle.
“Like mud masks and all?” he teases.
“Naw. That’s tomorrow,” I say seriously.
“Ah, of course.”
“How’s Lexington?”
“Really cool. It never changes and I need that. Mom and dad send their love, and Harold says he’s gonna teach ya how to play golf when you come out.”
“Oh no!” I say. “I HATE golf.”
“I know,” he laughs.
“Great,” I mutter and then laugh.
“THERE you are!” comes a voice and I look behind to see Wade standing there. “Come and dance!”
“Gimme a minute Brian,” I cover the phone and turn to Wade. “I’m on the phone.”
“Hang up!” he orders lightly.
“Wade, go back into the club. Go find somebody else to dance with.”
“I wanna dance with YOU!” he wobbles slightly as he reaches down to grab my hand.
“Let go of me!” I tell him angrily but he tries to pull me up.
“C’mon Jade…”
“Fuck OFF!” I tell him and he backs off a little, holding his hands up. “You heard me.”
“Ok, ok… Relax…” he mutters and heads back into the club.
I take a deep breath to calm myself and put the phone back up to my ear. “Sorry ‘bout that.”
“What happened? You ok?” Brian asks in concern. “I heard you tell someone to fuck off.”
“I’m fine. He was just a little drunk. He’s gone now.”
“Who was he?”
“Wade Robson,”
“The choreographer?!”
“Yeah. He’s ok really. He just came on a little strong.”
“He try anything?” he growls.
“No. Don’t worry Brian. I can handle him.”
“I know,” he sighs. “I just hate guys hitting on you.”
“Like I hate girls hitting on you,” I tell him. “I bet all the Lexington belles are goin’ crazy for you.”
“A little,” he admits with a laugh. “The annual ball is next week. That’s gonna be fun,” he adds dryly.
“Why?”
“Oh, it’s old-fashioned with waltzes and stuff. I don’t wanna go but my mom told ‘em I’d sing at the damn thing!” he exclaims and I giggle.
“What you gonna do?”
“I have NO clue. Any idea?”
“Uh…gotta be country?”
“Yup. And upbeat.”
“Ok, lemme think… Ok, there’s I Got My Baby or Bringing Out The Elvis by Faith Hill…”
“Both good songs.”
“Yup, or Safe In The Arms Of Love by Martina McBride… Or The Mavericks’ I Hope You Want Me Too… Those are all pretty upbeat.”
“Yeah. I’ll check those out. Thanks.”
“Good luck,” I laugh. “When is it?”
“Saturday night.”
“I’ll be thinkin’ of you!”
“Gee, thanks,” he mutters.
“I miss you,” I change the topic.
“I miss you too,” he says. “I love you.”
“Love you too B-Bear,” I smile. “I’d better go find Britney.”
“Ok. Call me tomorrow?”
“Sure. Bye babes,” I hang up and head inside.
