Album name: I Can Love
Singer: Flora Chan
Language: Cantonese
Date of release: October 2002

Having heard the theme from A Herbalist Affair and the songs from Family Man even before the release of this album, it was an almost sure bet that almost half the songs would be good. Well, they don't disappoint. The rest of the songs on this album aren't that bad either. She does a pretty funky interpretation of one of Anita Mui's old songs (track 12) and her title track and first track are nice surprises though not exactly raving pieces. We know you can sing in English, Flora, but you don't need to prove it by breaking into English towards the end of the first track. I'm not a big fan of Chinese songs that find the need to have English interspersed within its lyrics. I find them unnecessary and slightly irritating. If I had wanted to listen to English, I would have popped an English CD into my player.

If you want to sing in English, sing a full song in English then.

Having said that, my personal favourite here is track 5 but I felt that the key could possibly have been a tad too high for her to reach. Her high notes still need some polishing for sure 'cos she did tend to get a bit too squeaky on some of the songs. But she's got the voice and with more practice and training, she can only get better.

Not a great album but coming from one who was originally a newscaster turned actress and now juggling a career between acting and singing, it's a pretty good effort.

Recommended tracks:
5: Face your own consequences
8: Warm current (theme from Family Man) - duet with William So
9: The fated one (subtheme from Family Man)
10: Clay doll (subtheme from Family Man)
11: Bitter pill, good medicine (theme from A Herbalist Affair) - duet with Andy Hui
12: Tightly hugging the person in front of you
