Album
name: Roundup
I hate to say this, but just taking into consideration the 6 new songs, I found this album a disappointment. It starts off promising with the loud and upbeat Brother. Great song. Great guitar. Great rendition. Now if only the rest of the new stuff had lived up to the opening number. Except for Brother, there's not one other loud number in this album (not counting the old songs). What happened here? The Denise I know is about rock, about guitar, about energy. I don't want soft, lovey dovey ballads. There are other singers for that. The only other song that I enjoyed here was the duet with Anita Mui (Women are troublesome). A good song that was well rendered by the diva and her protege. Track 2 (I've found it) gave her plenty of airplay and lots of news too when it was released. Speculation that she'd found the love of her life was rife. There were even comments that one could feel the contentment in her voice as she sang this number. I beg to differ. I only found it a so-so piece. Didn't do anything for me. For a ballad, I much preferred Shampoo from her previous album. Final verdict: If you don't have any of her older songs, then this is worth a get, for even though her new numbers aren't exactly representative of the Denise we know, there's still a fine collection of her previous numbers here. Agree/disagree with my review? Drop a note in the guestbook. |
