Album
name: HOCC2 Can she be the female version of Nicholas Tse? Denise Ho Wan Si certainly has style and exudes a certain charisma. In short, she comes across as one cool chick...with a guitar to boot - one of the very few Hong Kong female singers to actually attempt to carve a name for herself with a pop rock style. At times she sounds a bit like Anita Mui - which I suppose isn't too surprising considering Anita is her 'sifu' - though Denise's voice isn't as low as Anita's. This album has a 'softer' feel to it compared to her first effort. I guess another way to describe it would be that it feels a lot more happier. The title track, Angelic Blue, written by Denise herself, is a very easy-to-like number. Guitar Lessons is interesting too - there aren't really any lyrics to it...like its name, it's more of a music lesson. Actually, all 6 tracks on this album are worth a listen to. Track 7 is an acoustic version of Angelic Blue and there's a hidden track as well. If you like something different - sort of soft rockish-like, you'd like this album. How
does Denise compare to Candy Lo though? I guess the musical style is
similar in the sense that Candy travels along the pop rock trail too.
However I much prefer Denise's voice. And in terms of image (hey, after
all, it is Hong Kong we're talking about), I would say Denise wins hands
down - she's better looking than Candy too. Agree/disagree with my review? Drop a note in the guestbook. |
