Angel On My Shoulder

CHAPTER ONE

March 19, 2000

Alyssa stirred awake as a ray of light hit her in the face, opening her eyes to take in the scenery before her, her eyes locked on what, or shall she say 'whom' had disturbed her slumber. "We're not going to land for another twenty minutes, do you think you could sit still for that long?"

Tina, Alyssa's best friend, turned from the window she was gazing out of, and sighed as she sit back in her seat. "I can't help it, I miss him, do you know how long it's been since I've seen him?"

Alyssa rolled her eyes, the *him* in question was Tina's long-term/long-distance boyfriend Justin, who Tina was absolutely in love.....and absolutely obsessed with. "A week."

Tina shook her head in disbelief. "It's been longer than a week."

Alyssa UN-reclined her seat, and stretched a little before responding. "It's been four weeks since he flew up to see you on Valentine's Day, and it's been two weeks since you flew down to see him in....in court?" Tina rolled her eyes, but nodded nonetheless. "So, it's only been a week."

Tina went to disagree, but realization suddenly dawned on her. "Dude, you're right."

"Like always." Alyssa said, winking playfully. "So, are you nervous about-" Alyssa began, only to have a flight attendant cut her off.

"Ladies and gentleman, we'll be arriving at JFK airport in a matter of moments, please make sure all tray tables are up, and in their original positions, thank you."

Tina waited until the flight attendant went back on the other side of the curtain, before raising an eyebrow in what looked to be mock confusion. "Why would I be nervous?"

Alyssa snapped her seat-belt back on, and shrugged innocently. "I don't know, I mean if my boyfriend announced on live television that we were dating, and I just happened to be flying out three days later to go to an MTV sponsored event with him, and knew that reporters would probably be all over the place wanting to know who I was, where I was from, and everything else, then...I'd be scared as hell, but I guess that's just me. I mean you seem to be doing just fine."

Tina nodded hesitantly before responding. "I'm as cool as a cucumber...." Alyssa could tell Tina was lying, and that she had hit a nerve, but she didn't say anything....yet. "but if I WAS nervous, what would you say to me, hypothetically speaking of course?"

Alyssa almost smiled, but managed to keep it in. "Well, hypothetically speaking, of course, I would tell you what I would want you to tell me, and that is to not worry." Tina gave her a doubtful look, so she continued. "You have nothing to hide, you're intelligent, you're beautiful, and you're confidant, and anything that a reporter asks, I sure as hell know you will have an answer for, if not a solid answer, a sarcastic answer that will blow them and all of Justin's little teeny bopper fans away, okay?"

Tina smiled a little, and nodded as well, but still looked a little frightened. "but what if I can't come up with an answer?"

Alyssa thought about it for a second, before shrugging, "Then I will be your official representative." She turned towards the sleeping man next to her, and held up a hand. "No more questions please."

As Tina's contagious laughter began, Alyssa couldn't stop herself from laughing as well. They continued on like this for several seconds before a flight attendant walked by giving them *the look*.

"Anyway," Tina said, her laughter dying down some, and her smile growing mischievous. "are you nervous about seeing JC again?"

"Why would I be nervous about seeing JC?" Alyssa asked, genuinely confused.

"Oh, no reason," Tina said, smiling innocently, with a familiar knowing look in her eye. Ever since Alyssa met Justin's best friend JC, Tina had gotten it into her head that the two were perfect for one another, and should defiantly hook up, "but if it was me, and I was about to see someone who I knew was just as attractive, just as witty, and just as intelligent as me, I would be a nervous wreck, but hey, that's just me. I mean, you seem to be doing just fine."

Alyssa couldn't help but roll her eyes, and laugh at Tina's failed attempt at reverse psychology. "Trust me Tina, it's just you. I'm not nervous, and I have no reason to be. I can tell from my first experience with him that we will be friends, and that's that."

"Fine, I believe you, nothing more than friends." Tina said turning back towards the window, watching as they slowly made their way towards the runway. "For now."

"Where are they?" Justin asked for the millionth time causing JC to sigh. "You don't think they overslept, do you?"

"No, Justin, their plane was delayed, they'll be here soon." JC said, holding in the groan that he so desperately wanted to release.

It had been like this for the last three days, ever since Justin had announced on TRL that he was dating someone special, Justin had been in agony, wondering if he had made the right decision. Well, not really Justin, but the group's spokesperson Melinda had been, and she just made Justin paranoid by doing so.

"C, are you listening to me?" Justin asked, knocking JC out of his thoughts, "Do you think I look all right or not?"

That must've been the last straw for Mike, Justin's bodyguard, because the next thing JC knew, Mike pulled Justin down into a chair, and shot him a death stare that would've frozen hell. "If you don't shut up, and stop acting like a complete ass, I will kick your little white behind all over this airport, you understand?"

Justin gulped, but JC didn't even move a muscle, he knew that Mike would never do such a thing to Justin, or any of the other guys, if he would, half of the group would've been dead already.

"Flight 203 from California has now arrived at Gate D12, I repeat Flight 203 from California has arrived at Gate D12."

Without waiting for either bodyguard, Justin pulled away from Mike, and raced out of the V.I.P room before anyone could stop him.

"I swear I'm going to kill that kid." Mike yelled before running out of the room to catch up with Justin.

JC waited a few seconds, before finally standing up, and following Lonnie out of the room, "I don't even know why Mike tries, no one can stand in the way of Justin."

"True, but it's always good for a laugh when he tries to."

JC laughed as he followed Lonnie's gaze to where Justin was standing, half-listening to Mike, who was giving him a lecture at the moment, "Yes, Yes it is"

Alyssa lifted her carry on bag higher up on her shoulder, as she made her way through the terminal, it was kind've hard to keep up with Tina, who was pushing past people in hopes to be the first one out of the closed in hallway. "Will you slow down"

Tina nodded absentmindedly, but continued to move at a fast speed, "Sorry, these people are just too damn slow, haven't they ever heard of the phrase 'move it'?"

A few people in front of the two turned around, and threw Tina glares, but neither one of them paid any attention to them.

"I wonder what he's wearing." Tina wondered after a moment. "I hope it's not anything baby blue because it doesn't go with...Alyssa?"

Tina turned around to see that Alyssa had stopped walking, and was not only blocking everyone behind her, but was also staring at her in what looked like disbelief. "Why'd you stop walking?"

Alyssa rolled her eyes, and began to mimic Tina as they started to walk again, "'I wonder what he's wearing, I hope it's not anything baby blue because it doesn't go with my tan.' God, sometimes I wonder about you."

Tina gave Alyssa an angelic smile as they reached the end of the terminal. "Touche`, m'dear Alyssa, To...JUSTIN!"

Alyssa couldn't have planned the reunion better herself. As Tina saw her boyfriend watching them from across the room, she broke out into a run, almost knocking down several people as she did so, and literally jumped into the arms of one Justin Timberlake.

Alyssa rolled her eyes at the two love birds, but couldn't help smiling at them as well. They both could be annoying, but so cute sometimes.

"Just think, it's only been a week since they last saw one another." Alyssa turned around, and was met face to face with none other than JC Chasez.

"If I ever get a boyfriend, and start acting like that, please shoot me." She joked, rolling her eyes playfully.

JC laughed, and then reached over and pulled her into a hug, "It's good to see you, Lyss."

Alyssa let go of JC, and smiled at his nick name for her, well, it really wasn't a nick name, he was just the only one who got to call her that. "It's good to see you too, C."

JC smiled, and made a move to grab the bag she was carrying, "Let me get that for you"

Alyssa moved the bag out of the way so he couldn't reach it, "That's all right, I got it"

He shrugged, and turned towards the couple who were still engaged in a passionate embrace, "Think we should break them up, or leave without them?"

Alyssa shrugged, "Depends on who drove."

JC smiled devilishly, "I'll get the car."
