Chapter 2

"When am I gonna get over you/ And stop living in the past/ When am I gonna get over you/ When my poor heart beats its last/ You told me on the day that you left me." Cait's voice softly faded away as she finished singing, oblivious to the five Backstreet Boys and their band, who were listening.
"Wow!" Kevin breathed, voicing everyone's opinion in one word.
"She's awesome!" Nick looked impressed.
"Looks like we've got our new backup singer." Brian commented. "Howie, you should go talk to her."
"Yeah." He left the awestruck group and walked over to where Cait was standing. "Cait?"
"Howie, hi." She gave him a hug. "Okay, tell me the truth. How bad did I suck?"
"You didn't suck at all. You have a beautiful voice. The guys all want you to come and be our new backup singer."
"You're kidding?!"
"No. They think you're 'awesome', to quote Nick." He smiled down at her.
"Whoa, I don't know what to say." She looked shocked.
"Say yes. You'll be on tour with us. AJ wants Anna to come with us, too. It'll be a lot of fun." He coaxed.
"Yes! Okay! I'll come." She smiled and hugged him again.

"Well, how was your first show?" Howie asked Cait after a performance.
"It was a blast. I loved it." She smiled, remembering. "But now I'm all hyped up. I can't sleep now."
"I know. It takes a little getting used to." He linked his arm through hers as they walked. "Want to come watch a movie with me?"
"Sure. What do you want to watch?"
"How about 'She's All That'?"
"Sounds good to me." They stopped at her hotel room door. "I'm gonna go get my pajamas on, 'kay?"
"Okay. I'll see you in a few minutes then." He looked back and smiled as he walked to his room.
Reaching his door he let himself in and shut the door behind him. He quickly shed his pants and shirt, leaving on his boxers, and pulled on a t-shirt. A minute later Cait knocked on the door. Howie walked over and let her in.
"Hey! Ready for that movie?" Howie asked, closing the door quietly.
"Always. I love that movie. It's so crazy."
"I know. Like he'd really get away with going up to get his diploma like that."
"Never. But it's still fun to watch. Freddie Prinze Jr. isn't bad." Cait grinned mischieviously.
"Ouch! I'm hurt! What about me?" Howie feigned a hurt expression.
"Aww. Poor baby. You know you're the best." Cait said, trying to keep a straight face.
"And you're such a brat!" Howie pretended to be angry, but couldn't help laughing. Cait couldn't keep from smiling anymore and cracked up laughing. "Oh, you're gonna get it, girl." Howie glared, and grabbed her. Laughing, he tossed her onto the bed and started tickling her.
"Ahh! Howie stop! That's not fair! I'm ticklish!" She shrieked.
Minutes later, they were both laughing hard and gasping for breath. The next instant, their eyes met and their breaths caught in their throats. For what seemed like forever they sat, his brown eyes locked to her blue ones.
"Howie." Cait was the first to break the silence. "Can I take a rain check on that movie. It's getting pretty late and I'm getting tired."
"Sure. That's fine." Howie agreed, finding his own voice. He got up off the bed and gave her a hand up. "I'll see you tomorrow, then. Have a good sleep." He held the door open for her.
"You, too. Night, Howie." She gave him a quick hug and walked down the hall.
