Pedro Martinez Award

The league's MVP award is named after the most valuable player in LOC history. Even though he is still active (and thus, can win his own award), there was no other player as deserving of the honor. Martinez's stats are mind-boggling and he is on his way to establishing himself as the greatest pitcher in baseball history.  [Bio] [Stats]

Kevin Mitchell Award

The season's best hitter is the recipient of this award named for the slugging outfielder. Mitchell dominated the inaugural LOC campaign in 1989. Well before the offensive explosion of the mid-ninties, Mitchell's numbers were incredible: 47 HR, 125 RBI, 100 R, .291 AVG, 1.023 OPS.  [Bio] [Stats]

Rick Reuschel Award

"Big Daddy" is the namesake of this award for the year's best starting pitcher. His 1989 effort (17-8, 2.94, 1.195 WHIP, .680%) capped off a solid career that began in 1972. More importantly though, the big-boned veteran was the staff ace for the first ever LOC champions.  [Bio] [Stats]

Mark Davis Award

The season's best relief pitcher is the recipient of this honor named for the shooting star closer. Davis is the epitome of the overused euphamism "one-year wonder." But, what a year it was. In 1989, he was the dominant reliever in the LOC, posting 44 saves, 1.85 ERA, and 92 K.  [Bio] [Stats]

Chris Sabo Award

The year's top rookie receives this award named after the scrappy former third baseman. Although his own ROY predated the LOC, "Spuds" left an indelible imprint on the league with his funky goggles and all-out, dirty uniform play (46 SB in 1988).  [Bio] [Stats]

2000  ·  Kaz Sasaki, Waukegan

Mike Moore Award

Named after the former hurler, this award is given to the new acquisition that proves to be the season's best bargain. Moore set the LOC standard for shrewd pickups with his 1989 performance: 19-11, 2.61, 172 K. A pitcher inserted in the traditionally offensive-minded Swing Man spot, Moore proved the critics wrong by posting the best numbers of his career.  [Bio] [Stats]
