Ryan sat on his bed, guitar and lyric book in hand. He was writing a song for Tori, which was shy he had told her earlier that he had band practice. He needed some time alone, he needed it to be a surprise. He knew that she had been having a hard time trusting him lately, and he knew how sentimental she was. Writing her a song would be the perfect way to win back her trust.
Melissa let out a large sigh as she clung to Dan and held him like she would never let go. She hoped that she had made the right decision. She knew deep down it was right, but she couldn't admit that to herself at the moment.
"I love you so much Mel," said Dan.
"I know," she said softly. "I'm so sorry I let you down."
Dan pulled back and stared into her brown eyes. "You didn't let me down, you could never let me down."
"So we can try again, right?" She asked him.
"Again?" Dan asked with a confused look on his face. "Mel, we don't need to try again, we never broke up to begin with."
Melissa smiled for the first time in a long time. "Oh yeah, I forgot." She hugged him again, tightly. She knew for sure that he was there to stay, and she wanted to keep it that way.
"So, how exactly did you talk your parents into letting you come out here?" Jon asked Jodi. "I mean, I thought you said that they wouldn't ever let you do something like this.
"Well, there was a lot of begging. . .and pleading, and I had to clean the entire house and promise to do the laundry for a month," she smiled. "I had some paychecks saved up, so I gave money to my parents and they bought my ticket for me."
"You spent your paycheck on me?" He asked. "Aww Jodi, I didn't want you to do that. I may be your boyfriend but I'm not worth all that trouble."
"Trouble? Ha! Jon, I only saved two months paychecks, I get paid every week, and a lot at that," she said. "Although. . I'm pretty sure it doesn't even compare to the kinda cash you must be raking in. One autographed napkin from you could be worth tons on eBay alone."
"I thought you said my celeb status would never change your opinion of me," he said with a teasing smile.
"Oh did I really? Oops, I didn't mean to say that, can I take it back?" She asked. "Please? Pretty please?"
"Oh yeah, sure. Of course you can. . .not!" Jon laughed and wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her to him. "So how long are you here 'til?"
"I leave Monday evening. We have three days to spend together."
"And nights too. . . .speaking of which, where are you staying?"
A smile crept onto Jodi's face. "Uh-uh, I know what you're thinking. I am not staying here," she said. "I doubt your parents would relish the thought of you and your girlfriend sleeping under the same roof, and neither would mine. My parents got me a room at the Holiday Inn."
"You're staying at the Holiday Inn? Even better," he smiled devilishly.
"Jon Davidson, I am surprised at you!" Jodi exclaimed. "My god, you didn't have such a dirty mind online. . .Oh wait, yes you did."
"I'm a guy, what else would you expect?" He asked. "I'm supposed to be nasty."
"You are such a dork," Jodi laughed. "I like that. You're a rock star and you haven't let it go to your head. To tell you the truth, the second you told me who you really were, I wanted to be with you even more. It made a real impression on me, because you let me know the real you. . .which is nothing different than 'Serial Joe's bass player'."
"Aw golly gee. You're gonna start making me blush."
"Okay, you can knock it off now!" Jodi said as she playfully punched him. "Since we only have three days to spend together, how about we enjoy our time and start by going to the movies tonight?"
"Sure. . .what about. . .um. . .South Park?"
"Seen it," she said. "Let's go! It kicks ass, you'll love it."
"I know, I've seen it too," he said with a gleam in his eye. A smile crept across Jodi's lips as she realized why he chose that movie.
"Let's go Romeo," she said as she grabbed him by the hand.
"So what do you think of it?" Ryan asked Dan about the song.
"It's good man, I think Tori's really gonna like it."
"I hope so. I would really hate it if she never really trusted me again."
"You know Ry. . .I know we're cool and all that," said Dan,"but I still have to ask. You are telling the truth when you say nothing happened between you and Melissa, right?"
"Dan! I thought we went through this," he said. "Of course nothing happened. I love Tori, and you love Melissa. Why would I?"
"I don't know. I think I'm just being a little overly cautious," Dan said. "I just don't want anything to go wrong with me and Melissa. And if something did happen, I'm not sure if I could be able to handle that. I had a hard enough time dealing with the fact that she refused to talk to me for two weeks."
Ryan let out a deep breath he didn't even know he was holding. The truth was, he and Melissa had lied. Well, not really lie, but they didn't tell the whole truth. It was no big deal, but before Dan and Tori had arrived, they did share a kiss. It was over just as soon as it began, but both Ryan and Melissa felt unbelievable guilt over it. It was something that just happened. . .so unexpectedly. Yet it meant nothing to either of them, so they swore it would never get out to anyone. They didn't consider it as cheating, it was just a kiss, no tongue or anything. Ryan knew that now even more, since he could only imagine the possible hurt he could do to Dan.
"Dude, you're one of my best friends. Why would I ever possibly want to cheat on my girlfriend with my best friend's girlfriend? I'm not that shallow."
"I know," Dan replied. "I'm just being paranoid." He was just saying it, but he could somehow sense that Ryan wasn't telling the truth about something. He wasn't sure what, of course, but all he knew is that something didn't seem right, and he was determined to find out what it was that was giving him that feeling.
