Jon sat impatiently as he waited for his laptop to make the internet connection. It had been nearly a week since he had heard from Jodi, which was highly unusual. He was beginning to worry, and he furrowed his brow as his buddy list finally popped up upon the connection. No Jodi, and no e-mail either. 'What the hell is going on?' he thought. Not knowing what else to do, he decided to write her an e-mail.
Dear Jodi, Wassup girl? How's it hangin? I haven't heard from you in a while, and I was just getting a little worried. We start our tour in two weeks, pretty exciting. It's with Edgefest, and we get to meet silverchair, kick ass. Debbie's still working on booking this other gig, but she's not telling us what it is. It's like some big mystery. Better be good. Call me, I really want to talk to you. Love you.Jon
"Ry?" asked Tori.
"Mmhmm?" he mumbled back.
"How long is this tour gonna be?" she asked a little quietly.
"About a month and a half I guess. Mom won't tell us the last date until she's confirmed it a million times," he said with a small laugh and a roll of his eyes.
"You pretty excited?" she questioned as she wrapped her arms around his slender waist, pulling him a little closer to her. She was no longer interested in the video they had rented that night.
"Yeah, it's always great when we get to tour," he replied. "It's gonna be so wicked this time too, we get to hang out with silverchair and stuff. I'm finally gonna meet Daniel Johns."
"Sounds great," she sighed. "You guys should have a lot of fun this time. And you'll get a lot more exposure too, with it being such a well known show and all."
"You know, there is one thing that really does suck about being on tour," he said, sensing her melancholy, and he pulled her closer to him so she nearly ended up sitting in his lap.
"Oh yeah?"
"Yeah, I don't get to see you." He gently kissed her forehead, and Tori had to try her best not to cry at the simple yet meaningful action. "I love you," he said.
"I love you too," she said as she let another sigh escape. Suddenly she couldn't keep everything inside anymore, she quickly straddled Ryan's lap and pressed her lips to his. Ryan was taken by surprise, but nonetheless eager to respond. Who was he to argue with over making out with his girlfriend? Tori's lips hungrily nibbled at his, as if she couldn't get enough of him. She was hardly ever this bold or forceful with her kisses, and that made him wonder. He pushed the thoughts out of his head and continued kissing her, that is, until he felt her hands wander to the button on his jeans.
"Whoa, Tori wait a second," he managed to say between kisses. He took her hand in his and tried to look her in the eyes, but she was avoiding his gaze. "I love you, but what's going on? I know you're not ready for. . .for. . .well for that. And you've been so quiet lately, with that little lost look on your face. Don't try to deny it because I've seen it. Something's wrong, why won't you tell me?"
Tori let another sigh escape her, and she tried to meet his eyes, but still directed her gaze downward. "This is really hard. . ."
"What is?"
"Ryan. . .I. . .we're. . ."
Now he was starting to get nervous. "We're what?" he gulped.
"No," Tori shook her head,"Not you and me. . .my family. . .we're leaving. . .we're moving out of Canada."
"Write me?" Dan said to Melissa just before she boarded the plane. He hadn't originally intended on going to the airport with her, but he knew how much it meant to her to have him there to see her off, and he couldn't disappoint her like that.
"Yeah. . .but Dan. .there's something I need to tell you," she said. She felt terrible keeping this from him for so long, and for the way she was telling him, but he had to know.
"Well what is it? It's not something that can wait three weeks?"
"No Dan, it definitely can't wait three weeks. I've been doing a lot of thinking. . ." she took a deep breath. "It's about us. . ."
"Mel. . .that's not good, nothing beginning with that phrase has ever been good," he said uneasily.
"I know. . .but we just can't. . .I can't."
"Mel why?" Tears threatened to fall from his eyes, but his male pride wouldn't let them.
"I lied about England," she said softly. "I mean. . .we're going. . . but we're staying, indefinitely."
