Jon sat on his bed, the light glaring from his laptop was the only light in the room. A thief could've broken into the house and he wouldn't have noticed. He was so wrapped up in talking to people that the outside world melted away. Of course, there was only one person he was really interested in talking to.
He had met Jodi in a punk rock chatroom, it was what she was saying about how she didn't think people should stop liking a group because their sound changes on the next album or whatever. She had said "We can't expect an artist to keep putting out the same kind of album year after year, otherwise they can't grow and evolve musically, and neither do the fans. People need to be exposed to all genres of music and appreciate it, rather than just one."
After that, Jon began talking to her and they grew very close. Both were skeptical about being online pals in the beginning, but once they talked on the phone they knew they could trust each other. The relationship blossomed from there.
Jon realized that although he and Jodi were technically dating, he had never told her that he was in Serial Joe. He wasn't too sure how she would react to it, but he had to deide how and when to tell her, and soon.
"Ry, I got a problem," said Jon.
"What's up? Anything serious?"
"Not exactly," he replied. "You know that girl I met online, Jodi?"
"Yeah I think so, the one from Vancouver?"
"Yeah. . .I guess you could say we're dating, but I haven't told her about the band."
"She doesn't know who you really are?"
"Hey she knows who I am," he said defensively. "She knows me just fine, she even knows that I play the bass, she just doesn't know the minor detail about the celeb status."
"Mm-hmm, and why exactly are you telling me this?"
"I need to know how to tell her, or when to tell her for that matter."
"Well, speaking in English usually works, and try telling her soon, cool?"
"Big help Ryan."
"Sorry man, it's the best I can do. I gotta go, Tori and I have a date." Ryan said good-bye and hung up the phone.
"When did you ever not have a date with Tori?" Jon said outloud to the now quiet phone. He sighed and returned the phone to it's cradle. Obviously he wasn't going to be getting any help from Ryan. He would've called Dan, but he was busy consoling Melissa back at the hospital. Stever was usually in his basement messing around on his guitar. He couldn't think of anyone else to call, none of his other friends knew about Jodi, nor did he care to tell. He didn't need too many people finding out about his online relationship. He cared too much for Jodi to put her in the spotlight like that.
Disappointed that he couldn't find any good way to tell Jodi the truth about his identity, Jon opened his laptop and logged onto the internet. It was now or never, and there was only one way to do it.
~*~*~
Jodi sat staring at her laptop screen, her mouth agape and her eyes wide. She couldn't believe this was happening, she had an online relationship with the bassist to one of her favorite bands. Granted, she wasn't a teenybopper like most chicks, the ones that only like a band because one of the members was "hot". She loved their music ever since she had first heard "Skidrow". They were young and they were still growing and maturing, but she heard something in the music. It was something you could tell they really enjoyed doing. It made sense now, why he always said he was tired, why he was working late. It was a shock, but at the same time it changed nothing. He was still Jon, and she was still Jodi, and she still loved him.
