With delays of games like Tekken Tag Tournament and GT 2000, Ridge Racer V is undoubtedly the most highly anticipated of all the launch titles for the PlayStation2 in Japan. Some might argue that Capcom's Street Fighter EX3 might be a bigger launch title, but the chances are pretty good that it won't approach the sales of the Ridge Racer series.
We has learned some new details about the tracks, modes, and cars that will appear in Ridge Racer V. There will be a total of seven courses running through the virtual Ridge City that's featured in the game. Each course will use a different route through the city and each will have varied difficulty levels.
The game will include three game play modes; Grand Prix, Time Attack, Versus, Dual Mode, Free Run. The Grand Prix mode will be where players compete against the CPU in a series of races. Just as the names suggest, the Time Attack will allow players to race the tracks against the clock and Versus mode will allow players to compete against other human opponents.
The Dual Mode will allow players to race against the computer in a one-on-one event. If the player wins, he gets to keep the opponent's car. Free Run is a mode where players can drive around the tracks with no time limits, laps, etc. You can choose any car and can basically do anything you want.
There will be a total of six cars that can be used from the onset of the game, and here they are:
