How to make pom-poms:
Materials: a ball of yarn and scissors
Instructions:
Cut a piece of yarn about 3 feet long and set it aside.
Hold out your index finger and your middle finger, slightly separated. Wrap the ball of yarn around your fingers at least 50 times. Don't wind it too tightly or your fingers will hurt.
Cut the yarn away from the rest of the ball.
Take the piece of yarn that you set aside and tie it tightly around the center of all the yarn, about half way between your two fingers.
Carefully, pull your fingers out from the yarn. You want to keep the shape intact.
Cut open the loops of yarn at either end. Fluff the pom-pom out a little. You may need to use scissors to trim your pom-pom so that the ends are even.
Now, make a caterpillar:
Materials: 4 pom-poms (make them all the same size, but make each one a different color), 2 googly eyes, 1 chenille stem, 1 very tiny pom-pom (store bought), glue
Instructions:
Line the four pom-poms up next to each other in a straight line. Glue the pom-poms together, one at a time. This is the body of the caterpillar.
Choose one end of the caterpillar for the head. Glue on the googly eyes and the tiny pom-pom for a nose.
Cut the chenille stem in half. Glue the two halves onto the top of the head to make antennae. Once the glue has dried, you can curl the ends of the antennae a bit.
