KEZMAROK, Slovakia (CP) - Moose Jaw Warrior defenseman Nathan Paetsch is showing the world what Warrior fans already know.
He can contribute offensively.
Paetsch, a standout rookie with the Warriors last season, scored once as Canada's under-18 squad opened the Four Nations Tournament in Kezmarok, Slovakia with a 12-2 win over host Slovakia Friday.
Jay McClement of Kingston, Ont., and team captain Jordin Tootoo of Rankin Inlet, Nunavut each scored twice to lead Canada's attack. McClement plays for the OHL's Brampton Batallion and Tootoo is a member of the WHL's Brandon Wheat Kings.
It was the first game of the tournament for Canada, who faces the Czech Republic on Saturday and the U.S. on Sunday in the round-robin tournament.
Canada went 1-1-1 against the Czechs in an exhibition series before the tournament began. Paetsch scored once for Canada's lone win - a 5-3 victory earlier in the weekend.
Chris Montgomery of the Montreal (Montreal Rocket), Ryan Hollweg of Langley, B.C., (Medicine Hat Tigers), Dennis wideman of Orillia, Ont., (Sudbury Wolves), Chris St. Jacques of Edmonton (Medicine Hat Tigers), Cory Stillman of Lindsay, Ont., (Kingston Frontenacs), Greg Watson of Calgary (Prince Albert Raiders) and Derek Roy of Ottawa (Kitchener Rangers) also scored for Canada.
