Candles

Black - Used for uncrossing rituals and spells designed to banish negativity or conjure spirits of the dead. Black is the traditional color used in necromantic divination.
Banishing negativity; absorbing negativity. Black is the absence of color. In magic, it's also representative of outer space. Blue - Used for astral projection, spells and rituals involving honor, loyalty, peace, tranquility, truth and wisdom. Burn blue candles for protection (against nightmares) during sleep. They can also assist in inducing dreams of a prophetic nature when anointed with oit containing powdered mugwort, and burned prior to bedtime.
Healing; peace; psychism; patience; happiness. Blue is the color of the element of Water. This is also the realm of the ocean and of all water, of sleep and of twilight. If you have trouble sleeping, charge a small blue candle with a visualization of yourself sleeping through the night. Burn for a few moments before you get into bed, then extinguish its flame. Brown - Used to find misplaced objects and improve the powers of concentration and telepathy. Spells involving a person born under the sign of Capricorn will yield stronger results if brown candles are used. Brown candles are also commonly used by modern Witches for protection of familiars and family pets.

Silver - Used in spells and rituals to remove negativity, encourage stability, and attract the influence of the Goddess. Lunar spellwork and magick involving persons born under the sign Gemini or Cancer also call for silver candles.

Some say you should let a candle burn out all the way when doing a spell. Some say you can put the candle out, but you must use a candle snuffer, or you will affect the energy surrounding the candle. One candle should be used per spell. For instance, you should not use a candle for a love spell, and then use it again for a completely different type of spell. This is why some people burn candles completely. It is commonly understood that you should use wooden matches to light your candles. Plastic lighters just don't have the same magical energy.
