Taken from the soundtrack of the British film 'Notting Hill', this track plays as important a part in the film as the leading man Hugh Grant!

Asked to record the track for 'Notting Hill', Ronan was only too happy to oblige and managed to take some time out from his hectic Boyzone commitments, to record the romantic ballad.

"The song is beautiful and I wanted to add a bit of a Celtic feel to it. I was thrilled to be asked to record a song for the film", says Ronan.

Written by Paul Overstreet and Don Schlitz, (a partnership which enjoyed more than 20 number one singles in the Billboard country charts), the song was originally a hit for country star Keith Whitley in 1988 and later was to win a Grammy award in 1995 for Alison Krauss (with her band Union Station).

The song was very well received when Ronan previewed it during Boyzone's recent UK tour. It has not only become a favourite with the fans but has attracted attention from some high profile names including 'Notting Hill' star Julia Roberts. The Hollywood star could not wait to congratulate Ronan on the song when the pair recently met for the London premiere of the film.

The video for 'When You Say Nothing At All', was directed by Kevin Godley, and was filmed, not surprisingly, in Notting Hill. The video centres round the park bench which was the venue for one of the most romantic and memorable moments in the film.

Before the rumours begin about Boyzone splitting up (again!), the song is also featured on the Boyzone greatest hits album which has become the biggest selling album of the year after only one week of release. It sold more in its first week than the rest of the top 20 added together. The album also enabled the boys to become the only band since the Beatles to debut at number 1 with their first 4 albums!

Ronan on his own

Boy band idol, father, manager, and now, soloist. Ronan Keating, the unofficial frontman of the successful Boyzone, is the first from the group to strike out on his own.

During this past year, many things (good things, fortunately!) have happened for Ronan. He married Dublin model Yvonne Connelly in 1998, and became first-time Daddy when his son Jack was born in March this year.

Next, Ronan found himself managing Westlife, a boy band put together by him and Boyzone's manager Louis Walsh. And don't think of Ronan as your typical boy next door. He can be a hard-nosed businessman if he chooses to. (Ronan had reportedly asked Westlife to sign a "gentleman's agreement" not to marry or have kids for the next five years!)

And now, Boyzone fans, get ready for yet another of Ronan's transformations. He has recorded his first solo effort, "When You Say Nothing At All," for the soundtrack of "Notting Hill," a film starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant.

The song was very well received when Ronan performed it during Boyzone's recent U.K. tour. Not only did it become a favorite with fans, but it also won the heart of "Notting Hill" actress, Roberts. The Hollywood star could not wait to congratulate Ronan on the song when the pair recently met during the London premiere of the film.

"She told me she couldn't stop singing it!" said Ronan.

From all the changes in Ronan's life, one should not be surprised at the spate of rumors of Boyzone splitting up. But whether the split is forthcoming or just plain gossip, Ronan is definitely excited about venturing into solo territory.

He recalled: "The day I arrived at the set (in London's Notting Hill neighborhood) to shoot the video (of "When You Say Nothing At All"), it suddenly hit me that I was going to be there alone -- not surrounded by the other four boys, and that was a bit strange at first, but a big buzz. It's a new chapter, and I can't wait to see what happens!"

Can you hardly wait to find out?
