Respect
Respect yourself and others

One of the goals of this non-myth based religion is to change
our views of not only the universe. But of how we see ourselves
in that universe. Also how we view the laws and practices of
humans. Religions and other traditions give us a role to act out.
They prescribe our views of the world and how we interact with
others. Therefore the religions or traditions we choose must be
chosen wisely. They must have a bases of logic and science. We
humans started experimentation the first tool we used. We must
change in order to adapt. No religion or tradition can be etched
in stone. They must change as new facts are found. One views
the world and forms one's beliefs based on what one knows, and
when they know it. Our view of the world is an interaction of
what we expect to see and what we really see. What we expect to
see is based on our views of the world. Formed by knowledge we
have of the world at the time in which we live.
In order to view ourselves and others correctly in this
universe. We must act with critical thought and logic. To
discipline our mind to think critically and logically. To think
rationally with compassion. To have respect for ourself and
others. We must respect ourselfs to gain disipline of our minds.
We must have respect for others so that we gain respect for
ourselves. If we do not learn to respect others, we do not gain
respect for ourselves. This must start at a very early age.
We must become mature enough as a planet. To no longer have
wars, conflicts, or confrontatations. To teach the planet to
think more rationally with compassion for others. So that the
planet may become peaceful and calm. With knowledge will come a
more peaceful planet. It is possible we have started down a
time line to a non-viable future, we must change our ways
before it is to late. We must struggle against chaos. We must
strive for balance. We must be ever vigilant against the
escalation of tyranny.
With respect for self and others many of our daily problems
as crime and drug misuse will go away. Why do people misuse
drugs? why do people commit crime? The answer in the simplest
form is a lack of respect for self and others. When one misuses
drugs that are harmful to oneself and is addictive. Then this
is the lack of respect for oneself. When one steals it is the
lack of respect of others property. When one injures, rapes or,
kills others, all acts of violence. It is the lack of respect for
others. When one injures, rapes, has sodomy, or kills children
all acts of violence. It is a lack of respect for children.
Any act of violence whether on adults or children is a lack
of respect for others. To have respect for self and others one
must be taught respect. Starting from childhood through adult
life. Respect must be taught in school, at home, in our
communication media, and subtly in all our traditions. We
cannot assume that children will grow up to respect others.
With violence in our communication media. It is very likely
that a child will grow up a violent person, not a respectful
person.
Drugs and crime are not the problem, although they seem to be
the problem. They are the symptom of the problem. Crime can
never be won by fighting crime. A war on drugs can never be won.
Because durgs and crime are a symptom of the problem. The problem
is people are not being taught to respect themselves and others.
We see in societies that have as there traditions respect for
others and self discipline. A society that is more peaceful with
much less crime. That society as a whole runs more smoothly. The
people get along, and problems are worked out, not fought over.
The people are self controled, not forced controled by laws.
Laws are only a feeble attempt at control. Which do not work
if people do not have respect, therefore respect the laws.
Laws are only a guideline that a handful of people have decided
that the many must follow. Whether or not the laws are logical
or right. Based on logic and reason. Self control must be within
the person, in order for laws to control. The person must think
critically and logically with compassion to gain the self
discipline for self control. The laws must be based on the same
critically, logically and compassionate bases. In order for the
laws to be factual and true to adhere to. The best control is self
control. Self control must be taught as deeply in a society. As
violence and hate are taught, in a majority of our societies at
this time.
To teach our societies rational and compassionate thought.
For children and the young adults we have schools. For the adult
we can maintain places to meet each week to be reminded to respect
each ourselfs and others. To tell of new facts that have formed
new truths of our universe, and everything in that universe. To
help us maintain critical and logical thought. With compassion
for others. To spread rational and compassionate thought through-
out the planet. To stop the wars and conflicts. To have a peaceful
planet. That runs smooth and calm.
In the early years of a childs development great achievements
are made. That set us apart from any other animal on earth. We
form language and social skills. How we are taught by others and
our societies in our childhood. Will in large part determine
and prescribe how we behave as adults. The people in that childs
life have a great responsibility to make sure the child is nurtured
and encouraged. To be taught respect, and to measure actions
against consequences. The people in the life of a child, if they
are a positive role model. Help to form that child into a rational
and compassionate being. These people then have given something of
great value to this planet.
We must not allow the rituals of the past to dictate our
behaviors. A myth based ritual cannot be a answer for human
behavior. It is not based on fact, but on myth. The same can be
said that one cannot judge by a small group of people in a
particular society, and infer that all humans are thus. We cannot
look at a western cultured boy at this time and say all human
males as a child; are characterized by being rough and tumble
natured at play. On the bases that it has been observed this
particular culture has shown this trait. In other words this is
only true at best for the western society, and is not a trait all
male humans have. The same can be said that not all humans are
characterized at adolescence of being problematic. As is seen with
many adolescents in western society. In more open and peaceful
cultures adolescence is not characterized as being problematic.
These are not traits that are a product form by one's genetic
makeup. But are prescribed by the society and their environment. A
similarity can be drawn from the horse that was thought to be able
to count. The horse got it's subtle cues from others as to what was
perceived to be correct.
One must not base behavior on a falsely perceived danger. As the
practise of teaching children to not talk to strangers. Strangers
by majority are not the people that children must fear. Also child
mistreatment is again not the problem. Although it may seem to be
the problem. The problem is again that people have not been taught
by their society to respect others. In this case children. In a
repressed sexual society that also promotes violence. The weaker
will always become the preyed upon in that society. Whether it is
criminals preying on their victims, or the police preying on
perceived criminals. It is hard to see what is barbaric, when your
society is barbaric. Hysteria may grow if fueled by the fear of the
enemy within. Based on half truths and lies. A feeling that we must
seek them out. We must watch every person, They may be the enemy.
The step from legitimate suspicion to rampant paranoia is much
shorter than we think. We think we have come so far. That the
torture of the heretics, and the burning of witches are all ancient
history. Then before you realize it, suddenly it threatens to start
all over again. The cries that they should be put to death, or they
should be cast out,(or put into jail for life, a sending them to an
Australia) are heard loudly again. Intolerance of anyone who
is different become the norm. (At this time 1 million people are
in prison in the U.S.A. Mostly as a result of a war on the people.
A war on drugs as they call it, or other violent crimes that the
society has influenced upon them by either lack of education or
media influence. One must ask at what percent of the population
does the incarceration of people become another big social program,
and what is this big social program saying about your society.)
We must not get caught up in the act of intolerance, because it
feels right. It felt right at the time to burn witches. We must
be ever vigilant to see those who in the name of righteousness,
spread fear and distrust of others. That we do not judge a person
based on inaccurate facts and unsupported effects. To watch for
signs of the escalation of tyranny. For what ever the seemingly
just cause at the time. When the first speech is censured, the
first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied for what ever
short term goal. Send us on a path that leads irrevocably to
tyranny. When any form of expression is banned a path to the
suppression of all expression is started. Whether it feels right
at the time, as banning the demonstration of the sexual nature of
humans, or a particular substance. For the short term goal of
stopping the viewing of certain acts, or the possession of certain
substances. It may feel right to throw away all rights and freedoms
for this short term goal, but set the future up for absolute
control and tyranny. That they will find very hard to gain the
freedoms back after the short term goals have been reached.
What need be taught is that with respect for self and others.
There should not be a desire to observe behaviors that are
disrespectfil to others. There should not be a desire to take a
substance that no one needs. But creating a law to stop such
practices only lead to more freedom lost. One must ask how many
laws can be made before freedom is lost. Freedom is a fragile
thing that must be protected. Laws are built on the
foundation of other laws already on the books. Freedom is chipped
away in little pieces for the most part until freedom is lost.
It is inevitable that if a form of government actively creates
laws, there is an ever present danger to the fragility of
freedom. Freedom and tolerance is respect for self and others.
We have a responsibility as humans to not cater to the violent
nature of a society. By depicting these violent scenes in our
communicartion media. Then exporting violence to other societies.
To infect their society with the problems faced in the violent
society. The more we are exposed to brutality the more we
become desensitized to it's dehumanizing influence. Every
society has the right to grow in a peaceful manner. Without the
influence of another society.
With the rapid exchange of information around the world. We
must make sure the information we send is rational. That the
information has an over view of the future, to measure actions
against consequences. To avoid prejudices of all forms. Whether
they are derived from sexuality, religions, or ideology. This
is not to say there should be censorship, but respect for others.
The information we give our children must be rational. When
children fight the incorrect response is: Why are you fighting?
The correct response is to tell them that fighting is not
appropriate at any time. Because fighting is the symptom of the
problem. The problem is these children have not been taught to
respect each other. So that the fighting would need not occur.
The simple rules of courtesy would solve most problems. The
question "Why are you fighting" has as it's implication that
fighting is a correct responce. That which caused the fight,
was not correct. When the fight itself was the inappropriate
response, and the cause of the fight should have been worked
out by courtesy or mediation.
The violence that children and adults see in the visual
media, for children in cartoons of this time. Expose them to
brutality, sometimes on a daily bases. Violence must be taught,
by one's society for violence to propagate. Just as hate of others
must be taught. Violence is a thing learned in childhood, to
control one's environment when no other outlet exist to mediate
a dispute. Then altered to serve other reasons, after being
taught violence through others and self frustration. Hate of
others in general is the reduction of others to something less
than yourself. We must not hate others, so that they do not
learn to hate us. We must not promote or use violence in any form,
so that violence is not learned to be used upon ourselves.
With the exploding population at this time (soon to be 7
billion people on earth). We have grown to not feel familiarity
with others any more. We feel that with so many people we will
never see that person again. When there are to many people on a
planet the individual becomes less or of no importance. Over
population is a strain to a planet and it's inhabitants. That
creates stress on the people and the planet. We do not feel the
need to talk to our neighbors. We do not feel the need to be
courteous. Then in general a non-caring attitude emerges. We
develop a competitive survival instinct that no one else matters.
We must step on others to get where we are going. When everyone
become discourteous to each other. People may come to believe this
attitude is proper behavior. But of course it is very wrong. In
order to have courtesy for oneself, one must show courtesy to others.
With over population we can look forward to life becoming ever
increasingly more stressful, discourteous, and full of crime.
To have respect for self, one must respect our planet as well.
To not over populate the planet. To not put stress on the people
and the planet's resources. This planet cannot support the birth
rate that we now have. At our present birth rate we will have 10
billion people on the planet before the year 45.2050. Having
children on a over populated planet is not a right, it is a
privilege. One must think about very hard whether they want the
child, and does the planet need anymore children. We must not
use a child as our ego builder, or an extension of ourselves.
No one should make a baby so that a part of themself lives on.
Somewhat like a replica of yourself lives on. This is a form
of bigotry that a part of you must live on. When there are many
children without parents,in so many other countries. That could be
adopted. One need not have a replica of themself to have a child.
What is needed is a relaxing of international laws on adoption.
With a greater emphasis on birth control education, and the
dissemination of birth control to those who cannot afford them.
Banning any form of birth control on a over populated planet
is wrong. As long as this birth control is safe to the mother.
This includes abortion of unwanted pregnancy. No government
can make this decision for a mother. The child that is born
should be a very much so wanted child. There are plenty of
children at this time in the world. There are plenty of children
that are orphans, unwanted, or that cannot be cared for. If we
would give up our prejudices and lines on a map. To look at the
earth as a world community. For the sake of the children on the
planet now and for the future. Then every potential parent could
have a child, and every child that needs a parent could have a
parent. At this time there are countries that people hire others
to kill children. That live on the streets. This must stop. The
way to stop this is to open the doors for the children to have
parents. Through the relaxing of adoption laws and bigotry.
Bigotry both on the part of parents and those whom allow adoption.
There are many practices that must stop so that children are
not hurt. In the name of tradition, religion, or bigotry. Male
children are taken shortly after birth and then mutilated. The
tradition of the mutilation of the female has stoped in most
cultures, but not all. The mutilation of the males persist.
The mutilation that is performed is circumcision. Circumcision is
child abuse. It should only be performed when necessary.
Circumcusion is mutilation,  not a religious right. Circumcision
is no different (when unnecessary) than the cutting off of a
child's lips near birth.
One may harm a child with indirect actions. In separating
children from adults. For the perceived harm of strangers. The
separation has taken away the natural order. So that males in
particular no longer have contact with children. Males in
particular because of the non-contact now imposed by separation.
No longer receive appropriate traning and respect of children.
Males no longer can hold someone's child so that they may learn
love of children. Or so that they feel the frail little body they
must learn to care for. To gain empathy and respect for children.
Adults are for the most part cut off from being with other's
children. The desire to be with children or to have a child may
become so strong. Because of the non-interaction with children.
With the decompression of emotions to be with a child,
that interaction brings. The person may feel no recourse but to
take a child. Or they may become so hateful of children that the
person may want to do harm to children.
Not being around children in a natural manner. One does not
learn appropriate respect for children. In the separation of the
children from adults and prevailing pediphobia (the fear of
pediphiles). The male receives from the society the ques that
the proper behavior is to not like children, to be indifferent
to children. In order to be quote normal. We see the manifestions
of this action. In the statistics of more children being hurt
and killed, not less. By those in close contact with the child,
and a very small percent from strangers.
A prime example of what can happen when one is not taught to
respect others. With the prevailing attitude that it is better
to not like children if you are a male. With the stress that
society places on the people (that no one matters). Add a
little depression or mental illness. Then the action that took
place at a school yard may happen. A man walked up to a school
yard full of children with a assault rifle. And shot many
children. The reaction of the governments were to ban the sale
of assault rifles. Nothing was done to put in place ways to teach
adults the appropriate emotions in regard to children. The weapon
could have been any weapon even sticks and stones. What is needed
is the reeducation of people in the appropriate behavior with humans.
In this case appropriate behavior to children. Until no weapons
are needed in the world.
In the separation of the child from adults. The child learns to
not trust others. The separation perpetuates the feeling of
unfamiliarity of others. And sets up another form of bigotry.
That of any stranger. How will these children judge others in
this world community. Forming freindships or the ability to
love, is based on the trust of others. This separation will make
the gap of social repression, unfamiliarity of others, and
disrespect for others and their property even wider.
The hysteria has built at this time to the point over separation
of children from adults. That a woman locked her child in the
trunk of her car. When she went to work. Because she did not
trust baby sitters and could not afford child care. Every male
has become suspect. Every male is seen as a potential threat to
the virtue of the child. The hysteria to suspect everyone of
harm to children. Has eroded the freedoms once enjoyed. So that
at this time people are guilty until proven innocent. By giving
their finger prints first and going through a back ground check.
Before they are allowed to work around children. It is very hard
when in the midst of hysteria to see what you are doing is very
wrong. Very harmful to future rights and freedoms.
We must examine the long term effects of our actions. To cure a
short term goal. That may give a long term even greater problem.
We may save a handful of children with the avoidance of strangers.
But may for succeeding generations, produce adults that become
ever more distant and uncaring toward others. The cycle of
unfamiliarity of others growing ever deeper. Along with ever
increasing disrespect for others and their property. All for the
short term goal to protect a perceived loss of innocence. That
very well may not exist in the youth anyway. Or arbitaraily picked
age of informed consent.
The world is a dangerous place to live in at this time. But
if we draw an analogy to our automobiles, the greatest potential
to get killed we face on a daily bases is to drive a automobile.
We do not give up driving because it is inherently dangerous. We
try to improve the automobile so that it is safer. Similarly we
must not repress communication with other because of a perceived
danger. We must try to change people so that they are respectful
and non-dangerous. There are those who at this time pose a danger
because of the lack of respect. But the fear of others is another
form of prejudice, that is as all prejudice very harmful.
All forms of prejudice are dangerous to oneself. Whether it is
derived from the pigmentation of one's skin, size, shape, or that
of homophobia and pediphobia. This is prejudice of others for
their inherent make up. A prejudice that becomes a danger to all.
Because it is dependent on the time in which one lives, an the
current view of others and excepted behavior. Having a prejudice
against homosexuals is like having a prejudice against overweight
people. Both have a disposition to become by their inherent make
up, what they are predetermined to become. That which need no
apology for to governments or religious bias. The danger arises
from prejudice, by responding to real danger in inadequate
responce. As AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) was
thought of by many people of this time. The same as disease was
thought of in the past. As wrath of gods, to show dislike of
something. In this case the dislike and religious bigotry of male
homosexuals. When AIDS showed up in the western world. It first
struck male homosexuals. This fueled the darkage belief of the
wrath of god. That god made this disease to kill homosexuals.
Because of the pious misbelief that homosexuals are an abomination
among numerous abominations. (Along with a bigotry that nothing
outside of the USA is of interest.) An abomination as a result in
the case toward homosexuals from the spilling of the seed, and the
perceived need to build a nation by populating. In the past when
population was low and when a large group was needed to become
powerful; homosexuals were percieved to be an abomination, (if you
were homosexual you were unlikely to have children and a perceived
hindrance to the building of a nation) along with spilling of the
seed a form of birth control and sodomy another form of birth control.
In the light of building a nation it seem very advantageous to
populate. But we have exceeded all expectations of population growth,
and have no need to populate further. We have been over-abundantly
fruitful in multiplying.
Neither in the past or now because of pious bias and prejudice.
Can homosexuals be thought of as anything more than an predisposed
life. Homosexuals are no more an abomination than someone
who prefers the color blue. Yet because of the pious belief that
homosexuals are less than other people. The government in their
prejudice toward homosexuals, was slow to react to the AIDS
epidemic. AIDS in the western world seemed to affect only
homosexuals. The thought was that they were not important enough
to be concerned with. Because homosexuals are given an open
expression of bigotry. Not until the AIDS virus found it's way back
into the heterosexual population was there any real concern.
AIDS has proven to be a very good point in case. That if one
does not respect others, one cannot respect theirself. If we
were concerned that humans were getting a disease. Not blinded
by bigotry to the extent of being slow to react to this disease.
The disease may not have been allowed to gain the foot hold the
AIDS virus now enjoys. It will be pointed out time and again that
we must give up our cherished illusions and bigotry, so that we
may survive. Because respect for self and others is a way of
life. Respect for self and others is the only way we will survive.
Bigotry runs so deep in our everyday life, and the way that
everyone is judged. That bigotry has come to seem as if it is a
normal part of interactions with others. When we say someone is
short, fat, dull, ugly, or the myriad of other expressions
humans have come to use, to describe other humans. We are
setting them aside, differentiating them from others. It is more
than just a description, it is a form of bigotry. When everyone
uses these descriptions, everyone becomes a bigot. It is then
hard to see that this is discourteous to others. That in these
descriptions we lessen our selves. Opening all to a similar
description of ourselves. This attitude may seem to be proper
behavior, but it is wrong. We must neither put people on
pedestals as presidents and popes, nor should we make people
less than ourselfs.
People of the future will judge us by how we were able to get
along with each other. Their judgement of this time can only
be, that we are barbaric. We would rather buy tanks for war then
books for schools. Most would rather watch a movie with extreme
violence than a informational program. And if we can judge our
people, by how our brothers and sisters treat each other. As
a mark of a culture and their ability to get along with others.
Then we are lacking much. If one cannot get along with in one's
own family. How can one get along with society.
Getting along is the act of tolerance. Tolerance is the ability
to allow others with differing views to express themselves. If
one does not agree with a view. Then point out one's view with
supporting evidence, that the view is a more correct view.
Holding to logic and scientific methodology. That also will take
into account human needs, compassion for others, and respect.
People must be able to express themselves. With out censorship
from government or religious ideology. Especially because it feels
right at the time, or has no corroborating evidence. The evidence
must not come from any one source. As evidence from any one
country or any one group. One must also take into account that
as the world becomes more communicatively bound to each other.
Views may be come more homogenous, and one must take this into
account. That just because all believe a view is correct, it still
may be wrong. As all believed the world to be flat, but they were
wrong.
Tolerance is also maturity. Maturity is the ability to change
and adapt. To the ever changing roles placed on a society. By
the ever refining process of fact and truth. One must have the
maturity and tolerance to in the face of fact and truth. To
except the truth even though it may not feel right, because of
personal views you have adopted. As a new society emerges; there
will be those that will fight with all their might, to keep the
old orders and religions. Along with those that are looking for
a new order. The fight as history has shown will be bitter.
There are many that will find it very hard to give up their
ingrained personal view of the world. As a flat world is hard to
be seen round, when all your life it was flat.
On a Greek island 2500 years ago in around the year 44.9490.
we had a brief awakening. There were people that believed things
were made of atoms. That animals and humans evolved from simpler
forms of life. That the earth was a planet going around a sun
that was very far away. They knew how many miles around the earth
was with a error of only 200 miles. They realized that the
universe was knowable. That the universe had laws that nature
must follow. They knew that once you are open to questioning
rituals and time honored practices. That you would find that one
question leads to another question. That with observation,
questions, and experiment one found the truth. That no ritual
or religion etched in stone never changing can be correct. And
that they are inherently evil. We have people who are intelligent
and well informed with anecdotal, inaccurate, and authoritative
information. This is the danger of having two systems of of
gathering information. On the one hand we have scientific
methodology for finding information the real truth, and the so
called truth based on authoritative, anecdotal, inaccurate, myth
based information. Injected into people from their preachers,
congressmen, editors, and friends based solely what they believe.
Then there were those that it felt more right to them, to just
think about the universe without experimentation. With the
suppression of knowledge, and the desire to find truth and beauty
through thought alone. The turning away from scientific
methodology, to belief and religions. The world that the western
society was a part of grew dark (with the help of some invasions).
The world had to wait until the old knowledge from the past was
found. To come out of the dark. But the turning away from science
was embedded in this knowledge (a kind of computer virus). That and
the growth of a widely held religion, during this dark age. Skewed
the old scientific methodology, and reason into the conglomeration
of myth and truth, that we have in the western world at this time.
It was not until Johann Kepler (45.1571-1630) and Galileo
(45.1564-1542). That the rediscovery of experimentation came back.
All the knowledge was forgotten in the dark ages, and was kept only
by the Arabs in the south of Spain. Because it was easier to think
about the universe. To have the universe fit the views of the time,
and the knowledge at hand. Rather than the truth through
experimentation and observation. This skewed society emerged, which
has yet to be corrected. To give up the old order that tore us from
the path of logic, reason, and scientific methodology. Down the
road of myth, illogic and non-truth. That has shown to not be able
to work for 2000 years of combative trying. We can only survive if
we use logic and reason in everyday life, and give up the old
orders that do not work. Because after no one fears the laws, and
after no one fears the gods. There is only logic and respect for
self and others to control the world.
