Totare stood silently, his arms crossed in front of him. He stared at the ground impassively, his face as blank as stone. Yumire, however, was having a fit. The boy paced, fidgeted, and muttered to himself. As he had put it, he "worried enough for both of them, so Totare shouldn't bother." Seshino and Kaete sat on the seats, Kaete with her arms around her husband and Seshino giving Totare dirty looks. "Yumire... will you sit down? You're making me weary just watching you," Kaete sighed in exasperation. Yumire looked over at her, grinning sheepishly. "Gomen nasai, Okaa-sama... I'm just so worried about Ura-chan," he said, wringing his hands in front of him. Kaete chuckled. "Don't worry, Yumire-chan. Riura will be fine--she's just having a baby," she said reassuringly. Yumire nodded, but kept pacing. "It's just... that tsunami was s'posed to hit soon, so..." he said, more to himself than to his mother. Meanwhile, in the delivery room, a small young Japanese woman strained with all her might to deliver her child into the world. She had a death-grip on the railings that sided her bed, and her face was screwed into a mask of pain. She opened her mouth and let out a howl as she pushed again. The doctors and nurses coached her through it, giving instructions and trying their best to make the delivery as easy as possible. Riura had already been in labor for more an a day, and the baby was certainly taking its time coming out. One of the nurses looked up nervously at the sounds of a storm gathering power outside. "Fyuusuke-san! Pay attention!" one of her friends hissed. "Gomen! But, the power's been kind of faulty lately... what if it goes out during the delivery?" she whispered back. "Don't say that, you'll jinx it," her friend said. A crash of thunder shook the hospital. "Oisha-san! I see it! It's coming!" the nurse cried. "Push, Mitsukiro-san! Push!" the doctor said. Riura threw her head back and screamed, using all her might to push her baby into the world. "Oisha-san! The baby!! The umbilical cord is wrapped around his neck!" the nurse said. Before the baby could fully exit his mother, and before the doctors could unwrap the baby's neck, the lights flickered, then went out. The nurses screamed for a moment before the doctor shouted, "The baby! Remember the baby!" The emergency lights slowly came on, showering the room with a dull red light. Nurses scrambled, trying to save the child. "Is he alright? Is my baby alright?!" Riura gasped, trying not to sob. "Just remain calm, oku-san," the doctor said. "Oisha-san.... the baby...." the nurse said softly. "Give him to me," Riura asked quietly. The nurse handed her the baby, and Riura took him into her arms. Please.... don't die..... please don't die.... she begged, holding him close to her heart. Suddenly, Riura heard a heartbeat, and she could feel the baby take its first breath. She sobbed in relief. "He's alive!" she cried, tears running down her cheeks. "Congratulations, Mitsukiro-san," the doctor said. Riura hugged her baby to her, weeping with joy. The blue-eyed child blinked calmly up at the hysterical woman, wondering where he was and what would come next. In the waiting room fifteen minutes later, the Mitsukiro family stood up as the doctor entered. "Is the baby alright?" Kaete demanded. The doctor blinked at her forwardness. "Ano.... hai, oku-san. The baby's alive and in good condition," she said, smiling. "Can we see? Can we see?" Yumire asked, trying to remain calm and act adult like his father, but just barely restraining the urge to leap into the air excitedly. The doctor chuckled. "Hai, hai. This way," she said. Totare made a move to follow them, but stopped when he heard someone clapping slowly. He turned, his hand moving for his gun. He scowled as he recognized Cara Cauchemar, applauding in a slow, deliberate fashion. "Congratulations, monsieur," she said, her face curling into a smile, "A brand new baby. What will you do with such a thing? A horrible man like you couldn't hope to take care of it." Totare scowled. "Cara, you try my patience. Leave, or I'll kill you here and now," he snapped. The temptation to shoot her was nearly overpowering as it was. The only reason he didn't was because hospitals frowned on the operation of firearms within the building. Cara gave a degrading laugh and flipped her hair. "Tsk, tsk, monsieur! Such rudeness! And after I came to congratulate you, too!" she said. Totare began to unholster his gun, and Cara suddenly sobered up. "Just you wait, Totare Mitsukiro," she hissed. "I will make you regret killing Jean-Paul." Totare snorted in disgust. "What, feelings, from you, Cara? He was nothing more than a toy to you," he said. Cara's lip curled in agitation. "Fool! Jean-Paul was with me from my childhood! I will avenge his death!!" she snarled. Her eyes narrowed, and her lips twisted into an evil grin. "Perhaps I will make my pain your pain.... as I take away your dear, dear child," she said. Before Totare could fully draw his gun and shoot her, Cara whirled and stormed off. Totare stared after her, his eyes blazing. "You come near my family," he murmured after her, "and I will kill you, next time."
