Harry Kim glared at the back of his best friend’s head. His expression became a pout as he looked down at the display before him. Once seeing that everything was normal, went back to glaring. He didn’t want to be on this away mission. Tom had volunteered him.
It wasn’t fair!!!!
He sighed. Acting like a child wasn’t going to get anything solved. Neither did being angry at Tom. He knew why his friend had gotten him roped into surveying and possibly mining a planet.
He’d been neglecting Tom, lately. B’Elanna, too. All of his friends, to be exact, had been moved to the back burner. Sue Nicoletti had been complaining that they hadn’t practiced lately. He’d seen Tuvok trying to teach Seven K’Alto.
He sighed again. He did feel bad about that but things were different. His life was different, fuller, happier. That was part of the problem. Tom had been bugging him for weeks to let him in on the secret. He knew Harry had a lover.
Harry frowned. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to share with Tom. He just didn’t know how. He knew it sounded crazy but he really didn’t need to hear his best friend say so. Not that Tom would say it to his face, but those eyes didn’t hide much of what he was thinking anymore.
He rolled his head, trying to ease the tension in his neck. He knew that ths secret was one he had to keep to himself. He sighed again, knowing that Tom wasn’t going to be the only one mad at him.
Over the last few weeks, the dreams had changed. They were no longer just about sex. They’d started cuddling and talking. They discussed telling Tom. His lover was all for it. They’d even argued about it.
They’d made up and then continued talking. Harry was sure that he’d learned all about his lover’s childhood, but couldn’t remember it. He hadn’t been able to retain anything but those black eyes.
He grinned. The night before they’d left, those black eyes had stared into his for an eternity. It was like looking into the heart of the universe. His universe anyway. Then his smile had started there and spread down to beautiful… full lips. There was something magical about that smile
He sighed getting Tom’s attention, doing it one too many times for the pilot to ignore. He looked over his shoulder, saw the silly grin on his friend’s face and suppressed a growl. Tom openly admitted that he was jealous of Harry’s new love. Or would if Harry would ever bother to talk to him.
“Sorry to drag you away from you love nest.”
Harry looked up and caught the expression on Tom’s face as he was turning back to the helm. He took a deep breath. His lover was right. As much as he needed to keep this to himself, Tom needed to know.
He looked down at the console and began to speak. Later, he wouldn’t know where he found the words. Somehow though, what he said worked. After he’d finally stopped talking he’d looked up and seen Tom’s stunned expression.
Then the pilot grinned. “He sounds wonderful Harry. I think I’m jealous.”
