Teach me, O Erato, how to teach
the words rioting in my brain
to dance
to lift their feet in synchronicity
with the rhythym of the song
the beat that drives the thoughts
to sing
to lift their voice
and end their silence
to let the wonders of the words
echo from the space within
to exult
to let the meaning of the idea
burst forth and grow, as a flower
gloriously
striving for the light
that gave it Birth
I hear you got married last month
Well
Congratulations are in order, I suppose
I've got a good life now, too
My sons are on their own and doing well
(I'm even a grandfather now!)
My niece is getting married next month
And Mom and Dad are celebrating their 50th in August
I'm being promoted steadily at work
And expect to become a trainer soon
And-did you know?-
I went scuba diving in Florida last January!
I'm planning for the Great Barrier Reef next year...
Pat is very nice
We power walk through the park often, although
I have trouble keeping up with her
(she really charges ahead)
Sharon in Louisiana is a terrific lady
We spend hours talking on the phone
And we plan on meeting in Denver soon
To go dancing
And Sonja is--well, Sonja--yumm
So I have a full and complete life
And I'm content
So if you can, please tell me
Why is it that I
Lie awake at night
Quietly crying?
A thousand times have I kissed you, while
A silver moon peeked from behind a tree.
A thousand times have I traced your smile
Softly, with trembling fingertips, while we
Stood, drenched in a rain of argent that fell
Through the leaves. From somewhere came the scent
Of lilacs, soft and sweet.....I know full well
That these were only dreams that came and went
Hand in hand, with the passing of the night.
But, Oh, God!!!---to lose myself in that fine
ecstasy; to feel your lips brush, as light
And sweet as a snowflake, against mine.....
---no matter. Your lips are chaste of my caress.
So shall they remain, 'til YOU decide to kiss.
A breeze comes, soft and invigorating,
Bringing applause from the trees. The grass and
The flowers bow in silent salute, and
The clouds turn to follow in its passing.
A new idea comes, fresh and stimulating,
Stirring us from our calm and placid lives.
It calls and it beckons: Awake!! Arise!!
Our souls turn to follow in its passing.
A new love comes, tenderly embracing
My dreams, holding them soft against the night.
The darkness has been lifted by the light
Of emotions long since buried. Sparkling
With the wonder that only love can bring,
My heart turns to follow in your passing.
