THS Ends Regular Season With Victory Over Vikes

The Warriors ended the regular season on a high note last Friday night, jumping out to an early lead and holding on for a 28-14 win over West at Coy Burnett Field.

With the victory, the Warriors went undefeated at home this year, going a perfect 6-0. Tehachapi has won 11 straight home games dating back to 2013, according to thswarriors.com.

Nick Steele got Tehachapi (6-4; 3-2 SYL) off to a fast start with a pair of touchdown runs of 44 and 37 yards, respectively in the first quarter. Steele also added another seven yard touchdown run in the beginning of the second quarter to give the Warriors a 21-0 advantage.

Steele finished the night as the Warriors leading rusher with 103 yards on the ground and three touchdowns. Willy Urciel also had 59 yards rushing and Chris Rhodes had 56 yards rushing in the game.

The Vikings would not go away quietly after the early Warrior lead, scoring 14 unanswered points to get within a touchdown midway through the third quarter.

However, the comeback attempt was thwarted when Abraham Katona recovered a fumble on West's next possession. The THS defense also rose to the occasion, forcing four-straight turnover on downs to close out the game. Daniel Wight also had two fumble recoveries in other defensive highlights.

Lars Olofson put the finishing touches on the win with just over five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, scoring an 11-yard touchdown run on a quarterback keeper.

Katona converted on all four PATs in the game, while also leading the special teams with five touchbacks on kickoffs and a 37-yard punt average on five punts. Jake Walters also recorded 61 yards on kickoff and punt returns, combined.

Tehachapi will enter the CIF Central Section Division II playoffs this week as the No. 10 seed. A first round game is scheduled at No. 7 Redwood-Visalia this Friday night. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m.
