HOFF LEADS MUSTANGS PAST THE WARRIORS

TEHACHAPI -- Stockdale High senior quarterback Dan Hoff said he left last week's game in a daze.

However, it was the Tehachapi Warriors who were apparently left with their heads spinning Friday night -- courtesy of Hoff.

Hoff, who was taken to the hospital after enduring a hard hit last week, passed for 234 yards and two touchdowns, while senior running back Francis Ojukwu rushed for 160 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries in a 30-6 Stockdale victory.

The Mustang duo's efforts led Stockdale (4-0) to its fourth straight victory. It came over a Tehachapi team that was playing without its starting quarterback Tyler Hansen. Hansen was diagnosed with mononucleosis hours before the game. Sean Finley led the Warriors with 117 yards and one touchdown on 23 carries.

Hoff did not finish last week's game after coming out early in the fourth quarter following a hard hit. He said his parents took him to the hospital, but the doctors told him he was fine. Hoff did not miss a practice in the week leading up to the game against the Warriors (1-3).

"I was just dazed (last week)," said Hoff, who was 11-for-17 with two interceptions. "(The doctors) didn't tell me anything, really. I just figured I was fine and went on."

Hoff looked fine in the second quarter when he threw the two touchdown passes, helping the Mustangs react to a 6-0 deficit.

Though he led his team to victory, Hoff was critical of his performance.

"I know that's not one of my best performances," he said. "I made some bad reads early on. I have to work on that. But the receivers made great plays. ... I love playing with Francis Ojukwu. He's a great player."

Ojukwu had touchdown runs of 2, 6 and 6 yards. He had 11 carries for 49 yards and no touchdowns in the first half when the Mustangs started out rusty. They had two turnovers in the first quarter, but Hoff helped Stockdale get out of its funk with his two TD passes.

"We played pretty ugly for a while there," Stockdale coach Dave Boyt said. "Not to take anything away from Tehachapi, because they were ready and they are well-coached. ... We have to be more consistent. We have a good team and we're going to get there."

After being upset by Foothill last week, Tehachapi was the underdog in its home game against Stockdale. But it was the Warriors who struck first. Tehachapi went up 6-0 with 58 seconds left in the opening quarter on a 1-yard touchdown by Sean Finley.
